I only own Australian made cars, because i am Australian and prefer to support our economy. Why the vl? I like the looks Why not a V8? It is a V8 (refer to australian comment) Why put a turbo on it? Cos turbo engines are fun to drive.

For me mainly when I was around 15 I always liked the VL shape and liked them even more for the motor. A couple of my older school mates had VL's. One was a supercharged berlina which sounded awesome and I think thats what actually swayed my mind towards them. It was a toss between either a red Skyline Silo S2 or the VL I still own now. Comparing them both. I hated the skylines interior and more so the older, box-like shape which is why I've got the VL. The VL's taken me on a handful of trips, broken down a handful of times, driven me absolutely ****ing mad sometimes and remembering the late nights outside in the freezing cold with a torch mucking around with it and spending all my weeks pay on it. Shes me baby!

For the character the VL Turbo has, For the feel/sound of boostin' and for the cheap as chips power when in comparison to some of the newer cars today Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Perfect wheelbase dimensions for Aussie roads, smaller and lighter than VR/VT commodores making them a hoot to drive and easy and cheap to work on, VB-VL parts will be sought after for decades to come, blokes just have to have old Commodores to play with.

i will have to say the thing that really got me into them other then the whole look all round is the nissan motor and the little kick up in the boot i love that little kick really sets the vl off just my 2 cents worth

i grew up around em, seeing VLGMH being built up since its purchase by its owner in 93,being a black stocker i'd see it everyday as a kid. And being aroudn OAR865 (a white calais that ran 10.50s and Ben Viceconte's Harliequin Calais) it was a massive influence on me. But largely VLGMH is to blame, hahaha, and still is to blame.

My love for the VL started when I was quite young. My uncle bought a 5L VL Calais back in 88, and sold it in 94. I was only 8 when he sold it, but I could still remember the car. The VL bug bit hard at Summernats in 2002, and from that point on I wanted one as my first car. In 2003 I was granted my wish, and got the VL I still have now. I was originally going to get a Auto, but I'm really happy I opted for the 5 speed instead. Even though it's just a stock N/A, and in most peoples' eyes would be nothing special I just get a great feeling when driving it. I've driven alot of newer model cars, and cars with more power, but I just love jumping into my VL, and going for a drive. Even at 23 years old it just amazes me how smooth it drives. Granted I have spent a bit, but all the money I've spent has felt it was well worth spent. I honestly think they're a great car. I've driven later model Commodores mainly VSs, but they just... I don't know lack "character" compared to a nice, and clean VL. Not to mention the amount of variety you can get with differnt models. You can get a V8, Turbo, or N/A almost across the entire VL range. Anyway not everyone likes them, but I think I'll always be a fan of the good old VL for many years to come. They just hold so much history within Holden if you break it right down... Last Bathurst Brock won was in a VL SS Group A. First Holden to be fitted with a Turbo 6 cylinder as a mass produced model. The VL Walkinshaw created HSV, and the first Holden with an injected V8. The VL Director was the last "true" Brock Commodore, and ended Holden's relationship with Brock. HRT's first Bathurst win was in a VL Walkinhsaw. There's probably others, but can't think of anymore at the moment.

grew up in northern suburbs of melb saw afew cruising around and justloved em for whatever reason, really cant explain. Plus they have to be the best sounding car when they are coming on to boost, great shape, cult car, huge following, decent interior for there time etc, whats not to like?

i have always loved the vl turbo , they were always around in the family with older cousins having BT1's and so on 20+ years on and there still one of the most popular if not the most popular car to modify out there , and not being to expensive to get decent power from them....... who can complain with that! its just a shame that all these little muzzas give them a bad name

I had a ride in a hard boosted VL and that made me get one felt quick on top end, I bought a light weight S13 and going to stick with that now, feels much better when driving and going to put some supermade body kit and rajab engine package 3ltr twin cam, ye Silvia is better than a VL...

way back in 1988 i'd just split from my missus and sold the house. I wanted a new car, my present for putting up with **** for the previous years. i'd always been a ford man, but there was no way i was going to buy a **** xf or go back to an xd just for the 351. Then i saw this mint maranello vl with a brock kit on it sitting up high at a car yard. By that afternoon it was mine. It looked great, went like the powers of piss and pulled chicks, what else could you want? I can afford to upgrade, probably an xr6 turbo would be the go, but i just can't bring myself to part with the old girl. I've just spent some good dollars to bring her back near new so i'll be happy for a few years yet.
