For a stock auto you would be looking around the 180kw manual around 190-195kw max. Throw on a set of 4 into1's, twin 2 1/2 exhaust, mafless tune and a OTR intake and you'll be looking at 220kw - 230kw for an auto and anywhere up to 250rwkw for a manual depending on who does the tune.

1/4 mile times, lucky to pull a 13 from stock, with the right bolt on mods should crack a 12. A vn with 190rwkw will blow the doors off a stock VX Clubby.

dont know if a clubby is different to a SS, power wise But my 01 VX clubby series 2, m6 with pod style cai, no tune, standard hsv extractor, twin 2.5 inch, standard cats, twin hot dogs in centre into single 4" out the rear. done a power run and made 213rwkw on a dynamatics at MCE mindarie.. have dyno sheet if you like to see it, might post it anyway.... Quote: A vn with 190rwkw will blow the doors off a stock VX Clubby. haha (MAYBE a auto if there lucky), but I'd beg to differ, and I think alot of others will to (who drive m6 ls1's)....I'd be more than happy to line up with one.

Sorry mate, a stock VX Clubby (180rwkw) weighing in at 1,800kg will get thrashed by a worked VN with 190rwkw that weighs about 400kg lighter. Even a 250rwkw Clubby would be hard pressed to keep up with a 190rwkw VN

I would bet my left testicle that I would touch up just about any 5L unless they have spent 4 million dollars on it.

OK maybe that last part was a little too much, but I still can't see how someone would think a VX would go the same or better than a VN with the same power... the extra weight plays a big part

Yeah, VX SS is 1640kg being basically an exec with a body kit and pretty interior, the VX Clubby is heavier as it is based upon the Berlina platform. I have no idea what one weighs. Mind you I always raced, no spare, no jack etc etc and a 1/4 tank of fuel.

I know of a 205rwkw VN that went 12.7@110. and as for 4 million dollars to beat your 12.8, my engine (5L) cost me $6000 and has been 10.42, now who's exaggerating? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Whats a VN even weigh, it must be over 1400kg? You can never stress setup setup setup enough. Country Pack springs, stock suspension or 90/10's if you can get them and nail that 60ft. I think mine was 108 or 109mph of a 1.7 60ft, shifting my own gears.. Jeez it was so long ago. There was that SV8 bolt-on in sydney that was deep into the 11's. It was using a auto with a 5500 stall and a 7k limiter. The new craze is for L98 spec motors in older cars, think 350rwkw capable with only a cam/spring change in an old girl. I reckon in a VL you could see a super low 10. If you where to build a LS motor yourself how fast could you go Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I agree with the setup part, you can't just compare 2 cars with the same power when it comes to 1/4 mile times

Take a happy dyno for my car, and a low reading one for the VN and you get pretty close to the same power to weight ratio. So assuming you can get it to hook up, I would expect a faster 1/2 track from the VN, but a storming mph figure for the later model car. Obviously auto v manual blah blah blah etc etc. Its all about the MPH Anything that runs 120mph+ is a quick street car, 130mph+ and your getting serious, 140+mph is getting fast and very skittish at half track, 150+mph and your 9 flat territory and the wheels are off the ground. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

However one thing we are forgetting when comparing these LS1's to VN's with 5L's is the shape of the curve, the old holden makes very good midrange whereas the ls1 like to rev, so just stating a max power figure is less than half the story. There is no turbo LS1 in existance that can match my MPH for such a low hp figure, and on the same token there is no turbo LS1 that makes such a low hp figure on the same boost. Was the gas comment directed at my car or the vn? Either way, neither have gas. Mine is a street car, no gas, pump fuel, full exhaust/interior etc etc. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Nah I was being cheeky in regards to the gas. Ahh take about a 1000 at the tyres in a late model commodore with a 2 speed to run 150mph. Girch at LSX tuning has run 152mph I think. Basic 408ci mill to, stock VY cam etc etc. Its all a setup thing, where you may use a 4k converter, a LS motor will run 4.5k or 5k to sit it up on the fat of the torque. I know n/a my LS motor peak torque is 4800, but is fairly linear from 2500 onwards. Drops away sharply from 6500. Still had the limiter set at 7k, shifting as close as possible without buzzing it.

Yeah i meant there would be 150 in an turbo LS setup in my car, not a 1650kg late model.. If i can get 140 from my budget junk holden, and an LS1 can't do 150 i'd be foolish to even contemplate the idea.

I heard the LS series arent as strong as the iron blocks and have tendencies to split bores. Any info on that az?

I haven't had any experience with alloy block failures, but certainly have heard of the issue. one thing to note would be that force inducted engines would be more prone to failure than NA at similar power levels as the FI engine will be doing less rpm and therefore will have larger combustions but fewer of them. I know if i built an alloy block i would leave it as a virgin bore to keep the integrity of the steel sleeves. Perhaps someone who has seen it happen first hand could shed some light on sleeve thickness when failure occured. I would seriously doubt a defect free block would let go at less than 1000hp. I have not heard of an iron block failing.

Hmm... I've heard of a couple of LS1/2s that have split bores around the 600rwhp mark. TUFCAB is one. Having a look on ls1 forums there seems to be a couple of people who have had issues around that power level.

The aluminium block has its point, where combustion pressures just get to much and it will split. It has more to do with tuning, but it does have a limit. The "limit" and I use it loosely is around the 800-1000hp mark for the aluminium block. Iron blocks do silly things to, but it was a casting issue rather than a strength issue. CV race ute was a iron LS6 block (I think, sure they can confirm) and was god knows what HP level. If your really silly there is heaps of aftermarket now.
