i have just run a small hose from turbo to actuator so will run standed boost. 98 octane is in and wont use nothing else. will go get the timing changed tomorrow and ill get a cooler soon. just dont have the money right now i need it to get the car r/w.
thanks for all ya help duke much appreciated mate
im to scared to put my foot down at all with n/a injectors and n/a ecu so im not gonna do it. i have babyd it since i first started it and will do so untill ecu and injectors are in.
turbo spool is very loud since the first drive and doesnt sound right, i can hear it spool down which makes me think input shaft is fkd as its NOT blowing smoke!!. not happy since i brought the turbo off a memba on here stated rebuilt 12months ago and in working order!! im lucky his a good bloke and willing to help me out, as he was unsure of the condition(had been told it was fine) fkk here we go changing the turbo again! or just wait till it does give way, wont last long but
timing is now set to just under 12deg.
how would i describe how loud it is lol
it sounds to loud to be right! bearings or something are noisy for me to hear it spool down like that.
haha very hard. Get a video on your phone or something. Wait till you have the proper ecu and injectors etc before you boost it to hard etc then get a vid.

believe it or not i know exactly what you mean and i can tell you its just the sound that the oldschool 20 yr old t3 turbo makes, its fine lol. Surprised me aswell when i did my conversion. The newer ball bearing turbos dont sound the same way
ok duke gtek cooler kit is on now, will have the ecu and injectors in 2moro hopefully.
now when its all on and running what should i set the timing to? or should i leave it at just under 11deg?
also do i have to change the knock sensor b4 i boost it to 8-9psi?
cheers mate
If you have a cooler, and then the ECU and injectors are installed it should be pretty happy. The thing with timing though is each engine is different and some happily take 15deg base timing and other struggle with it.
Ahh if you have a turbo ecu, but no knock sensors connected, the ECU will wipe 5 deg of the timing maps at all times. Its not really a problem. They are over sensitive anyway. You just tune around it.
Two ways really to do this. If it was me, I would start at 15 degree assuming -5 deg from no knock sensors and do a power run in 2nd gear in a out of the way place private road etc , listen for audible detonation. Also make sure the car is nice and warmed up before hand, as in hot operating temp etc. If you don't hear any put 2 more degrees in and try again. etc. Its only a pretty rough guide, but find where it runs best and leave it at that.
The other way involves just taking it to a tuner, one of the forum sponsors and they will give you a few dyno runs and do it for you. Should not cost more than $150 bucks(or less).
The biggest thing but so your not wasting your time is to make sure everything is working on the car, so its not sitting on the dyno costing $88 bucks an hour while they fix little things so it gets a power run out of it.
car is drinking awsome amounts of fuel with the n/a injectors and n/a ecu in.
im using 100 octane from united servo at $1.43 a f*n ltr, and a full tank is gettn me 220 ks driving it like a baby lol
thanks for the help duke ill let ya know how it all goes when i put the injectors and ecu in.
cheers
