this is a sound clip of my vs ss hsv, cam is an f288-2, full exhaust twin 2.5 inch stainless with twin cats and 2 turbo mufflers, come TTB manifold, 355, currently not tuned so its a little off, but as u can see, it sounds good, but not hugely choppy, and this cam is much bigger than a 286 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaLxTiLfQdI

got the cam, lifters and timing gears in over the weekend, just have to re fit inlet manifold, timing cover and water pump then get a tune.

Hey mate how did ya go, You got a vid of how it sounds on idle? wouldn't mind going similar path as you

fixed the inlet manifold leak and re set the base timing to 10 degreese. goes much better than it did with the standard cam especially in the midrange(above2,500rpm) has a lumpy idle but nothing over the top.

Sounds good mate.. I would like to get a cam for my vs ss but still debating whether to do it or not lol.

yeah it's a fair bit of work if your planning on doing it yourself. I only changed my cam due to the original lifters being noisy all the time. I went the larger cam only because it was the same price as using the standard one.

Did not want to make a new thread so thought I would bump this one up. Mate of mine has a brand new 286 hydrolic cam, lifters, timing chain and some other things to go with it... He assured me he got everything needed to use so I wont have to buy nothing else. Question im asking is would that cam be to big.. and what would I have to buy a new memcal as such or what.. Would I have to buy new injectors.. will the cam give much power and a chumpy idle? Not really sure how to go about it. If I decide to buy it I want to make sure I got everything before I put it in. I have a vs ss 5speed btw

thats all you need, aside from gaskets, idle will be chunkier but not stupid, the 286 aint a BIG cam, but i felt the upgrades where awsome.. might be a bit dull down low with a 5spd but it will still be alot better up top.. i dont know about a memcal either, mines carby.. bigger injectors would be good though, not massive but slightly bigger

I heard that with the 286 that its a must to up the compression? So did you out a 286 in your car, did you notice much difference?
