20-05-09, 22:11 GMT+10#22 can u let me know where u sourced the engine from
my misses is doing up and FJ ute, and she wants a v8, i naturally have tried my hardest get her to put and RB or a 2j in it, but she said it has to be an 8
was thinking the ls1 304 way but then thought about the vh45 and putting a big single on it!

21-05-09, 16:20 GMT+10#23 that's what I thought
I got it from ezekial (Stewart) the same guy I got the gearbox from. He bought it as a front cut which was sourced from SSS Automotive in Sydney. I did call these guys to get my own before I came about this one and it was $1800 and unknown condition, not my cup of tea. Wait time, about 3 months and that's if they get back to you. I am still waiting on my call regarding delivery times.
Good luck because no one has them in stock and they are order on reuqest only. Having said that, they are approx $50-100 US from wreckers i the states...that's the killer part. A lot of them over there just get thrown out *pulling hair out*

21-05-09, 16:44 GMT+10#24 There's two at a wreckers down the road from me, with box, and loom not cut for $2200, thats in Brisbane though
Ahh the gearbox z32 you think? And a bellhousing conversion kit from the states?
Sounds like you have been doing your research

21-05-09, 21:56 GMT+10#26 dam thats steep. i was going to try and get some of the guys from the forums to import them since they are a dime a dozen over there, but when i came across this one, i couldn't resist.
check out this thread, its all vh/vk45 stuff. in the states there are plenty of them in s14's...dam that would be a nice car. I know there is one being built in newcastle with a forged vh45.

That's the idea but its a standard bottom end so I am already looking at piston and rod options. But hey, I hope it lasts the way it is. It will be all in the tune....safe safe safe.

30-05-09, 18:20 GMT+10#28 hey Brad, hopefully the end of the year by we all now what happens to timeframes and budgets.
Started on the engine bay last weekend as this is what is stopping any real progress. Since its the biggest job, thought I would get it out of the way first.

02-06-09, 22:21 GMT+10#29 Made some comments in another thread, so thought I would post up engine bay progress here.
I have completely removed all the sikaflex from my strut towers and reinforced it with by seam welding pretty much the whole engine bay. Welding around all the strut towers, behind the tower on the inner guard, chassis rail joins as well as beaver panel, radiator support, steering colum surround, reinforced the cooler cutout. Anything which was spot welded is now completely mig or tig welded with no seams left. You may get the idea I am after a completely smooth engine bay, this to me is the best part to be looking at so some serious time will be spent in there.
Made sure everything is still square, so its looking good for the time being.
Currently just removing all the surface rust since getting the bay soda blasted around 9 months ago and its currently got a few sections in etch primer. Once its all in primer I will post some pics of what I have done, its not the prettiest at the moment.
I have a few little tricks up my sleeve for some custom work just to finish the engine bay off totally, not so much appealing just the small details are what i am aiming at getting done right, the rest will, hopefully, just fall into place LOL.
Busy on plenums for the next few weeks ends, thanks for the queen bitch public holiday this weekend and maybe a overseas order of approximately 10 plenums, 7 so far confirmed which will keep me away from it for a couple if not a few of months.
Now at least I have something to do in the garage if I get a bit over doing work for everyone else's car in the meantime.....ooh what a good feeling it is to be back on a project lol.

14-08-09, 20:49 GMT+10#31 There has been a bit of progress between my work.
- inner guards are all finished
- firewall has nearly every hole welded up.
- finally got my spare powerglide gearbox replaced so know I can dummy fit the engine.
Now just have to reblast the remaining bits of the engine bay for a quick primer. In between that, engine and gearbox together might get dropped in this weekend just to see how it looks and figure out the best placement for the turbos.
I am considering a couple of different options for engine mounting....my favourite is a completely custom made chromoly crossmember, steering rack and front suspension.
I'll post some pics after a layer or two of primer has been put down and the engine dropped in to see where I am going to put it.
That should keep me busy for the next 4-6 weeks.

then i can finally get around to putting the engine in and figuring out the turbo positioning

29-08-09, 17:20 GMT+10#35 well when do cars ever go according to plan......was at the sandblaster today and ended up decided on blasting the whole car for a better finish.
that means the car has to be completely stripped. no wiring loom, remove fuel tank and tow bar and while i am at it, i might as well strip the sound deadening on the interior and do that......hope you guys have plenty of time to sit back and watch cause this is going to drag on
