I used Pedders Comfort gas shocks on all 4 corners. I done the rears myself and Pedders done the fronts. It didn't cost all that much.
Comfort gas isn't all that soft either. You can get the Touring inserts which are softer again, but I tried to minimise bodyroll as much as I could without going too hard. I'm still pretty happy with it.
Check that all the spring insulators are still there. There should be 2 top and bottom for each spring and make sure your tyre pressures aren't too high. I usually use 28psi for stockies and 35psi for 18's and 19's.
No worries man. Ill try that. Wouldnt standard shocks be ok for low springs since there would be more travel in the shock. I thought lowered shocks stopped the spring falling out? Im also wondering if the bushes need replacing.
I have koni's in my car and the big dips and rather large pot holes still cause a rough ride.
I had pedders comfort gas in and it was like riding a rock. Koni's is qutie considerably better but its not like riding in a new car... If anyone knows the over pass on melton highway to calder thats about the only areas where my car is completely **** house. But I dont know many cars that arent rough over that.

pretty much everything on my car is new mate. I used monroe sensatracs and well they were nice and floaty and soft. But didnt last all that long. VL's are pretty old and they just dont handle like the new cars we drive. But if you wanna lay some cash out go koni's and enjoy. pretty much unless the road is TERRIBLE. its not so bad really

Dunno and labour only cost me time.

Lucky you would have saved you alot

just for the record, ive been in this car and its uncomfortable as to be in! went from old crap shocks and springs to new ones and it made minimal diference. its hard to explain. springs have nothing to do with it as the old ones were standard height in good cond and the ride was still very poor.
In my experience the monroe gt gas shocks (base model ones) are really spongy, so alot of the bad experiences might come from having low springs with the higher travel shocks, not using enough of the shocks travel. I put some pedders sports ryders in the front & they are extremely hard but I like the stability when flying into corners, but does send a chill down your spine when you hit a pothole on the road, the noise it makes. I hope the koni red adjustables in the back will make it a bit better for handling.
For the person who made the original post, what sort of wheel tyre combination are you running?

Koni reds are quite a nice shock to drive with. They are firm as you need them but soft enough that you dont have teeth/bone shattering moments. I drive some pretty **** roads down to wagga and yer its "rough" but it sticks like **** to the road and never had any hairy moments.
Your not gonna get a really good ride with a lowered car. I had fully adjustable Koni's in my VL with lowered springs and on uneven roads you felt every bump. On a smooth road and around corners it was smooth as.
Same as my car now, rides like its on rails when on a smooth road but as soon as you get on an uneven road you feel every bump. Even with $1500-$2000 Coil overs its still a bumpy ride.

I was told by a few people that as long as its just king spring lows it will be fine. Thats the only reason why I got standard shocks.

Its not that low. Does the ride suffer no matter how little you lower it?
