12-09-08, 10:24 GMT+10#22 go down to autobarn and buy some chrome tail lights $300 (power increase of about 10-15KW) then get some blue neon washer jets $10 (increase of 5-10 KW) and dont forget a monster tacho $350 (adds about 10 KW, 15KW with a shift light) and you will fit in with every other 10 second vs v6 on the road
and about the suspension why waste money just take the rear springs out, its for free and the ride is pretty stiff

Fact of the matter is spending $1,000 trying to give a V6 Commodore more power is a big fat waste of money. You won't get much in the way of actual engine mods for $1,000, however you could get extractors and a loud exhaust for $1,000, but for that extra 10rwkw your going look like a homo to 99.99% of the people you drive past

Diff gears is your best option if thats the case

12-09-08, 18:34 GMT+10#33 heres what i did with my vl. hopefully you can learn something from this.
2 1/4" exhaust - $150
extractors - $52
panel filter - $120
add some gaskets and gasket cement and it cost me under $400. (an makes a noticeable difference) also go around and do things like tighten up the accelerator cable and replace fluids. also chuck in a tank of high octane fuel. with continued use the extra cost will balance out as the engine will get more mileage.

12-09-08, 19:19 GMT+10#36 Hock the wheels and the stereo in & buy a bigger cam, remap, exhaust diff gears & cai. While your at it hock everything you own in because if your in the market for some power it will never stop.

12-09-08, 19:27 GMT+10#37 best advice many people can give is leave the engine alone.. for what you want diff gears will be enough.. just for the better acceleration and lighter feeling.. cai.. go for it.. its not expensive and you can make it yourself.. you just bought the car and im sure you excited and want to get cracking on it... but for the cash youve got, leave most of the driveline alone.. do the cosmetics of it for now.. and if your keen on working up that car.. save allot of dough and convert to l67..

12-09-08, 19:54 GMT+10#38 ill give an answer to your engine mod question, not driveline.
the best bang for you buck for that price would be, and seeing as you know a mechanic, buy him a slab, save you alot of cash.
high ratio rockers, 1.1 comp would be good. best thing you can get on a budget.
nice exahust, cat back will do for now, 2 1/4 inch, wont drone like half the other **** heaps out there.
panel filter, BMC or K&N.
and a custom intake pipe/CAI if money permits. after that then start thinkin about, spool or lsd, with 3.9's and a shiftkit, make most of the power that you have produced, good luck with it, tells us what you do.

I highly doubt a machined out throttle body would give an increase of 10-15rwkw
my mates stock vs=105 kw at wheels then put on 69mm throttle body and got tps reset made 119.7kw at wheels!
VLDOOD knows what i'm talking bout. all those little mods you can do makes a big difference. 5kw here, 10kw there ends being round an extra 50-60kw in the end and it'll pretty much blow the doors off stock 5ltr's and VL turbo's!!!
