Thats because most people through the crappy looking Black cepters on em. If I were to do that I'd go Sig's on the front, Silver Cepters with Polished Walls, widened modified to fit M/T Street Slicks on the back. That looks tuff lol. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i give my VY a bit of a hard time but it doesnt use oil, however on cold startups it sounds like a bucket of nuts and bolts until the oil starts to warm up a touch

if you are going to look at one make sure the engine is dead cold cause thats the best time to hear the piston noise, if its warm they could be trying to mask the problem the pistons are a forged piston they need more clearance cause they have more thermal expansion compared to cast so once there warm the noise goes away

My bolt on motor in the VX SS S2 rattles like a whore. Its a rebuilt motor. Uses about half a litre every 10,000ks. Its seen 100 shot of N02 + and used to turn it past 7000rpm in 1st gear at the drags. Limiter is a little nicer now at 6750rpm. hehe. Ive abused the ass off it. Ran really lean afr's and heaps of timing you name it ive tried to kill it. It still hauls ass. I think you should look for one that is well maintained and with a few minor mods. These motors dont really like being babied to much so one that has its legs stretched every know and then isn;t such a bad thing.

a lot of people get piston slap and tappet noise mixed up if it is making a tapping noise on start up most of the time i will just be caused buy using incorrect oil using some oils make them very noising these days you would be hard pressed to find a LS1 with piston slap as it affected new motors or repetitively new motors so all the cars with this problem would have been fixed long ago

I think that most of the LS1's would've been fixed up by now, they had problems mainly in the VTII Commodores with oil consumption (about 1 litre per 1000 kms some of them used) , I heard some of the VX's may have had the problem. I use Valvoline 10W30 in my VY SS Commodore , it's heading onto 261,000kms and doesn't use any oil (according to the dipstick ,it stays at the full level till I change it at 5000 kms) and pulled good vacuum when I checked it so that's telling me that the rings, valves, etc are in good nick. Yeah, I would only go forwards with a Commodore, not backwards, particularly when somebody in a boosted, turboed & intercooled 4 cylinder with "BYEBYEV8" on the number plate gets wasted by the LS1 which only has an aftermarket sports system, 3.9:1 diff ratio and tune, when the throttle is opened up just a little bit !
