ok so here it is 600 hp standard crank, bearing caps and let those bearing caps walk as freely as they like ......sounds like a solid plan.
A common fact is that Holden block bearing caps walk very easily under revs and when that happens say goodbye to the bearing shells and we all know whats next.
And if you don't know what happens next your input shouldn't be involved in this thread.

How many revs?, i have had mates have plenty of probs here,
but they where stock stroke, 11.1 comp, big solids 7500-8000rpm.
You should be able to make upwards of 500rwkw and not rev over 6000rpm with
at least 5.0L of airflow, even my RB30 ****box makes 470rwkw( or 710crank hp , weight shifted Hp on a moroso sliding scale) through a glide
at 6500rpm. Didn't jake edwards still run 2 bolt mains.?
I am not disagree or agreeing as i will admit i am no expert with these motors
but have a idea from freinds over the yrs, just know that turbo motors don't really place the same stresses on motors as big rev/comp etc, otherwise every car i have ever owned would have put a conrod through the block so far
But obviously if its not to expensive its cheap insurance, and i also fully
realise that strokers are cheap these days and don't really add to much to the cost of a motor these days in the scheme of things
cheers
darren

For the cost of regrinding your crank, doing your rods again etc you may as well go the stroker. Stroker kits are dirt cheap now

Thats a bit different to $358 as someone else stated in this thread work out a price and double it and you will be pretty close if you want to keep your investment
This from my set up but just to give an idea with cam costs

boom likes to quote figures without realising the final goal...
to him an engine only costs a stroker kit and a cam to build

building a 355 yourself in most cases would classify you as a fool already me thinks mr boom...
and i think your preaching to the wrong crowd saying a mild RB30 cant make good numbers

lol @ this thread
Alex, your pricing quotes are epic fail. If you ever open a mechanical workshop, let me know, I'll get all my engines sent to you and you can build them if you are going to be banging out $4000 355 strokers all day long.

yer i did build the motor, everything I paid for was less than trade price, machine work was next to nothing and still the whole motor cost more than $4000 to build.
Go price a set of new heads, add porting, valves, springs, roller rockers, retainers, collets, posi-locks, stem seals, etc. then add to that the price of the manifold, holley carb. That is top end alone, when you buy everything new instead of 2nd hand junk, the price skyrockets I assure you.
Machine work alone to do a 355 stroker motor "properly" is around $2000, sure some people might know a machinest, but even then it isn't going to be done for free and it sure as hell isn't going to be done for cheap/free on a regular basis.
Your quotes of $4000 would be choosing the cheapest crank, **** pistons from USA, cheap H-beams, 2nd hand heads with home-done porting, you get the idea. No worries I could slap together a 4k 355 that won't last, but what is the point of that. Just to tear it down again and fix it?
Machine/balancing work on any non-oem application is CRITICAL to engine longitivity, so everyone reading take that as a word of advice, don't skimp on machine work and choose your machinist carefully, otherwise it will cost you in the long run.
Alex, there is no turbo coming and never will be, I source my parts below trade so decided from the start to go a different route

boom **** off until you have actually hand built this demon turbo v8 you keep talking about. you sprout nothing but prices of what stuff probably costs and talk **** about how easy it is to build a weapon engine. You've gone through none of this stuff yourself and simply regurgitate info from magazines ect...im sick of your crap on streetcomms so don't bring it here aswell, you have no real clue as to what it takes to build an engine thats gonna last more than a week.

How is forced induction a whole different game? Mate if you plant lemon seeds, what do you grow?
It doesn't matter if you build an n/a motor or forced induction motor, it is still the same. The motor is only as strong as your weakest link in the chain.
Build your motor, grenade it, then come back so everyone can laugh and say we told you so.
I love all these so called experts, haven't built a motor in their life and know it all from reading what others have done. No worries, even if you buy the best and build it yourself it is still going to grenade. Why? Give a first class chef a list of ingredients to make a meal and then give a person who can't cook to save themselves the same ingredients, you really think they will make it the same as the chef? lol...
