hey yer is was the N/A gearbox i installed it on, wasnt easy it can be done but with great difficulty, here is how u do it again my mate will explain it he did mine.
1. remove circlip and pull shifter out.
2. remove cover with 12mm bolts
3. remove other metal ring in the cover
4. pull out all plastic components and place metal spacer beneath them
5. put original plastic components back ontop of spacer
6. bolt cover back to gearbox
7. put little cap on end of shifter and place shifter into gearbox
8. put new metal square cover over shifter and hit with rubber mallet onto old cover
9. take her for a spurl and see how she goes
10. crack open a beer
good luck buddy, how we did it and is fine

So, you didn't use the banana shaped retainers at all? You just hammered the square plate straight on top of the shifter hole?
AND, you used that large metal spacer underneath all the bushes? Not on top to push it all down?
Rusty777 - Now, apparently the kit I have is a universal kit which can be used for Skylines, VL's and Silvia's etc so I was incorrect saying its the wrong kit.
That doesn't explain why the ebay ad for the VL SHIFTER is completely ****ing different to the universal kit!! The seller told me he will send me the kit pictured, which looks much more easier to put in.

After all this, that seems like a very plausible idea
I feel dumb now. I don't know how to install a shifter...
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
