Finally, after 3 long weeks i finally picked up my car from the mechanics after work on friday. A8 turbo block and mx7 gear box are now in and i am pleased with how it turned out. Just after the mechanic dropped the motor in i took it for a test drive. The car was splattering had no balls and wouldnt rev over 4000rpm, so the mechanic kept the car for a little longer trying to figure out what was wrong. At first it was a suspected fuel delivery problem, with the mechanic swapping over fuel pumps but nothing changed. He then tried changing the distributor and coil but still the same. After heaps of ****ing around the mechanic found out that the afm had died. I was a bit dissapointed it took him so long to figure it out but in the end it was worth the wait. The timing belt, clutch, spark plugs, afm and fuel pumps where all replaced as long with the car getting a general service(engine oil, transmission oil and diff oil flushed out). The car goes pretty good for a complete stocko. Pulls hardest between 2500-4500rpm but runs pretty hot so the next step will be too slap a cooler on and boost it to 12psi or so. Car also sounds alot quieter and less beefy without the extractors on but i guess turbo spool sounds better anyway.

Looks great man, come along way! Did it used to be red? Just judging by the firewall. Looks really good with the Calais front on it. As Chris said, the GK Tech kit as super easy to fit.

thanks for the comments boys. Yes the car use to be red. The last owner resprayed the car black. Ill definately be throwing on a cooler of some sort in the next few weeks as the cars running pretty hot. This was evident as the top main radiator hose blew while i was driving back from uni today. I replaced it with a standard hose but have also ordered in a pair of gates racing radiator hoses(top and bottom) which should arrive on friday just to make sure it doesnt happen again from the high running temp. Not sure if i will get a gk tech cooler as i have been told by a few people that the cooler cores they use are cheap chinese cores but then again thats only what i have been told not something i know as a fact.

yer when the engine was swapped over the water pump was changed. I took the car for a spin today after i replaced the hose refilled and bled the cooling system and it was fine. By running hot i mean around half way- the next bar up. I was just used to my na running no more then the 3rd bar all the time. Can anyone tell me if this is abnormally hot for a stock a8 running no cooler, because if it is the case then i wont drive it.

Did a bit of research through some old threads on here regarding the afm. I checked the resistance on the first and last pins on the afm and i got a reading of 390ohms. I adjusted it to 382ohms to richen the fuel mixture. Car has been consistently running 1/2 to 1 bar cooler than before. Must have been just a lean air/fuel mixture then? I also havent noticed the petrol gauge going down alot faster than usual which is good news. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

After reading through the tech articles i resprayed the rocker cover and the top half of the timing belt cover. I went for the factory look using VHT wrinkle plus red. I broke one of my ignition leads while i was pulling them out but luckily i had my old set. It will do until i get a new set. Numbered everything just to make sure it goes back in the same spot. I also broke one of the oil feed hoses that goes to the turbo, so went to repco bought 1m of hose and new clamps. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

....Update.... Got a 600x300x100 intercooler with custom 3" and 2" piping installed last week. Came up really neat. Big thanks to Luke(rbfrog) at Sears Automotive who did all the custom fab work and installation. Very easy to deal with and i can recommend him to other people. The pipes were all powder coated black. Everything has been hooked up to custom made brackets to make sure nothing comes loose. Welding was top notch and you can barely notice it. AFM was moved into the cooler piping. The throttle body was flipped upside down to keep everything looking neat. Cruise control and the A/C setup were all removed as they were both not working. The front bar had to get shaved down so that the cooler could sit nicely. No holes were cut in the engine bay. A dose pipe with pod filter was also fitted . First couple of days i had the car i was doseing left right and center including enclosed shopping centre carparks lol. At the same time i dont wonna get ****ed for having a dose pipe so i have been keeping it low key by driving off boost. Heres a few pics i took of it: Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Is that possible? Will i need an adapter for that?

Looking fantastic Chris. I wouldn't keep the pod like that because it's just asking for a big puddle. If you're still running the standard turbo, you'll be able to put the complete stock airbox back on. Otherwise, you may be able to attach the pod to the stock S-bend with a real short piece of pipe to adapt. I like the idea of turning the throttle body upside, never thought of that. Certainly cleans up the accelerator cable! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
