I dont want to keep going back to it but the market and stupid collectors are the only reason monaros are so bloody expensive. Their prices exploded. Lets be serious its just a monaro ..... not being a smart ass but its true. There not 1 off, there not special production. The 6cly 2 doors are still at the $70k mark .. when 10 years ago they were $5k why ?? caus there was a muscle car frenzy .... there only now called collectables caus there now out of the price range of 90% of people. When i was doing trade school at frankston Tafe a mate brought a HK monaro with a 500 hp chev in it, body was clean but undercoat, no rust. Are you sitting down .. he paid $2500 for it, the market proce was $10k Back then it was cool .... but just a HK. Now its as much as a house BECAUSE its a HK.... crazy !!!! Its called sentimental value.... anyone wantin over 12K for a mint vl is dreaming and after all the years building it spending mega bucks on it the value never rises! I would sooner park my car in storage and pull it out 2 or 3 times a year then sell it and lose all the money and memories.

A perfect 6 cylinder HK 5 years ago was worth say $15,000. Now theyre worth probably $50,000. Reason why? Everyone wants one and if someone wants it more than someone else then they will pay more for it. Alot of them are absolutely wrecked so its either going to cost ALOT to restore or just buy a nice one already done. Its about race history. Its about the blokes that can afford it had them when they got thier licenses and can afford a nice one again to relive thier youth... and theyre doing it. I know one guy who just bought 3 HKs and one guy that bought 2 HQs! Its not about being out of the price range of 90% of people, its the simple 'I want it more so ill out bid joe' situation. Dont be naive and think that there arent alot of people that are willing to spend $50k - $100k at the drop of a hat on a car... there is! Whys my car worth money? Cause so many people want it and theyll pay for it... pretty simple. Oh, youre refering to Wally and his HK. Deals like that come around once every 100 years I tell you. He still has it... driveline is off tap now. He didnt buy it when they were cheap either... he had it when they were worth $30k+... he just got in at the right time. I agree with you Brett but as you said before - why pay so much when u can get an exotic for the same price ? Will this happen to VLCT's when they get thin on the ground.... I know the way the markets work and how the person who pays the most wins but WHY are people now paying this much ? its not just caus they want to relive some boyish child dream. You can buy a 70 Ferrari 308 (model not the engine ) for less than a HK and there a much more collectable car, lol even a testorossa. ........ Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

These guys didnt have ferraris as first cars... they had monaro's, torana's and GT's. You ask the enthusiasts why they bought it! Again, ferrari's wont gain value (except mega vintage ones). Its the ones who had them in thier youth and have the cash to purchase. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I paid 11K for mine 4 years ago and I wouldn't expect more than that and I've nearly spent 10K on the *******. Bloody money pit!

Man my first car was a VW beach buggy... there as rare as hell and not worth $10k now Im not contradicting myself.... im quoting you saying why would people by VLCT's when they can buy better cars for same money ... im saying the same thing. Why buy a $370k monaro that in effect is a 40 y/o holden when u can buy a 90s ferrari ? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
