At this point I'd actually prefer to go the more expensive route of building the turbo engine (slowly of course), so new parts can be used and second hand parts can be looked at properly. I'd be a bit worried about buying a 20 year old turbo engine :S
I don't have room to work on an engine though.. so I'm **** out of luck.

Id personally prefer to have a genuine turbo VL then do it up....ive had 2 genuine turbo VL's and both engines have been sweet. my old SL turbo had done 260,000kms and it didnt blow any smoke or make any lifter noise or use and water or anything and it went hard...they arnt that bad...they are only numbers and at the end of the day you can say you have something that not many people in NZ have that would kill to own. and you can allways rebuild it if you wanted to. They will hold there value here to

White over silver is niiice.
Problem for me is, I want a wagon.. and a manual.. and not all of us are as lucky as Mike! I don't exactly have hopes for finding one. I'm gonna have to wait 'til some money builds up..
Have you guys seen the RB30DETs with VVT for sale on Trademe? The same guy has had a few up for sale over the past couple of years, but he always presents them as the same engine.. so seems a little odd to me.

Just build up what you want, its not hard, a VL is one of the easiest cars to work on and modify, decide what you want then collect parts and assemble!
