in my cirumstance i know it was the reg, standard reg on bosch 984 held pressure over night, could kick it over straight away and start. add the sard and would take about 20 seconds to start from the moment i hit the key. even with the old VL pump i got my hands on a cheap ebay reg and well it did the same thing, and the problem went away the moment i put the factory reg on. so my conclusion is the sard reg must not 100% seal when the prime stops so the fuel gets out and no pressure.

Run a manual fuel regulator with it's own pressure gauge, which you can buy from almost anywhere. It really helps knowing the pressure.

Quote: fuel would leak out of the barb fittings where abouts would it leak out from? where the fitting screws into the regulator? try some thread tape...

99% of the time when fuel regs fail they go to full rich/full pressure coz the diaphragm has split
