and the fact when i ran it was 32deg with %54 humidity had absolutely nothing to do with it aswell right? ohhhh and i just drove the car for 1.5 hours to get to the track :P, ill agree on **** tyres, cars got FE2 with stiffer shocks, im running stock comp 8.4:1 untill 2-3 weeks? when i pull the heads off and get them shaved to something a little more cam friendly. and 3.08 diff gears? anyway how much coin is spent all comes down to if you pay someone else to do it and by the way i do own a VN but its a shell thats getting towed away in 2 days, my cars a VP :P ok so mines not fast but its also not heavily modified, so insted of shooting down my idea's how bout' you give your own.

a track is no comparison for car against car... specially when the main factor on a v8 is wheelspin off the line.... which is why i went and bought slicks on the weekend... takin the vn down for the first time this week... will do 2 runs with the crappy 15' chasers on the back then 2 with the MT slicks. i reacon there will be atleast a full second difference, good reason being the tyres on atm have jack **** meat left. first of all tell us what HAS already been done to the stato? and u stated just there overall 1/4 time.... as ive said earlier if thats all he's goin for a nos kit will do that straight up simply. assuming it already has a good exhaust, extractors and CAI..... wack some slicks on bigger fuel pump for nos kit and 100 shots of nos down the track; logically no one could doubt the results would be better than moderately stock vx ss.... with slicks and nos u would save the money of doin a heap of crap like diff gears paraddx616 - tell the fella u know to never go back to where he got the work done and dyno reading of 162rwkw.. fella i bought slicks off on the weekend was tellin me bout one of his cars, got all this work done vortech blower and came back with 165rwkw, he said that cant be right they put it on the dyno again an played round with it, rung up capa and that.... long story short, took it somewere else, quick tune; found a few problems and 330rwkws later.. presto!

The 5litre as a motor overall has great potential!!! it just depends on how much cash you want to throw @ it to get it moving With that said the ls1 is much more superior motor in that ,like the rb30 motor, its in its ability to rev that makes it what it is! overall if you want good times out of a 5litre then be prepared to spend the $$$!! but @ the end of the day the ls1 is a better/newer motor so you have to accept that fact as a reality! but on the other hand ask any v8 enthusiast and most will say you cant beat the sound of a 5 litre v8 Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

How a VQ Owner can beat a VX LS1 with a minimum cost: Stage 1: Sell VQ Stage 2: Buy VX LS1 Bottom line the 5 litres are pigs compared to the LS1's. You can throw a heap of cash at a POS VQ to get it competitive but it is never going to beat an LS1 with a few mods without major dollars spent on it.

If he sells his VQ he can buy a VT series 2 LS1 with only about 1-4 grand ontop of the price. All the bull about piston slap is very rare now as most has been changed and the vx series 1 still had the piston slap problem aswell. To the original question as all have said the 5.0litre will not even come close to a LS1 with minimal mods if ur gonna spend little cash, you either need some form of forced induction or throwing a fair bit of cash into it ie big stroker. I've owned both a vt ss LS1 manual (215rwkw with exhaust and intake only, factory tune) and a worked vn ss (286 cam, headwork, worked auto, 3.7 lsd) at the same time and my ss was not even close to beating my vt at any point.

It was only an example. Any late model commodore with an LS1 will shit all over a "Budget" 5 litre build. This is the problem with his question. Budget and 5 litre should not be used in conjunction with "beating" a much more advanced engine that has been proven to give easy HP

but look at the fact here champ.. u can say minimal this an that for a ls1 and so much more on a 5L.... its easy to get 300rwkw's out of a 5L in 4 ways... nos, turbo, charger, stroker, or a combination of themfor under $15000. so we've got the engine work out of the way.... say to get to 300rwkw's out of both a good $15000 for the stato and say $3000 for ls1 (exhaust, tune, et) price of vx ss ls1 - $25000 min. price of stato - $6000 or so so to really weigh it all up properly you'd have around $19000 to play with on geting 300rwkw's out of the stato.... which we all know $19000 could get you a blown ls1 to throw in the stato.... so sayin it would cost heaps more to get a 5L to the stage of some vx ss or whatever is comparing apples with oranges, if your gonna talk it up like that, compare total cost with total cost.... i still stand by putin a nos system in an slicks, cant go wrong!

Wow someones had some firejuice today... To the topic... I would say your going to struggle. A dead stock LS1 run on 91octane fuel can be not much faster than a V6 due to the computers ability to sense knock and wind the timing out and fuel into it. As soon as they put a nice dual 2.5" system, set of headers, some for of intake mod and run it on decent fuel over time the LS1 will wind the timing and lean the fuel out again making more power. My own stocker with only a set of pipes on it and running 98 octane fuel laid down 215rwkw. After the tune and a tidy up with a better cold air intake and a few exhaust mods it with a tune was just this side of 240rwkw. But..... If it was dead stock VX SS and you where allowed to mod yours. I would 3600rpm Stally... Shorten the diff gears and do the usual intake and exhaust mods. If your lucky and the LS1 is having an off day you may just give it the tickle.. but i doubt it.

lol my mates twin turbo 5L vs ute beat a mildly worked 6L vz ss ute twice on the latest vss cruise and its only making 250rwkw on a internaly stock motor, not bad considering u could build another 2 of his utes for the same price of the vz at teh end of the day if everyone drove around a mildly worked vx ss what an exicting car scene we would have, plus most ppl dont have the sort of cash 2 fork out 20k+ for a car then forking out another 10k to work it and other stuff like rims etc,
