nobody said he (the deceased) was doing anything wrong, it's simply about making sure you are safe at all times, we can and should all learn from this and try to prevent it happening to any of us vehicles don't stay within lines on the road, never expect them to, esp when you may be lying on the road to change a tyre I've been to more prangs incl fatalities etc than i care to imagine, and had my crews working amongst freeway traffic in the process. we close extra lanes, use our trucks to fend off cars, high visibility clothing, have RTA attend etc etc ...all to ensure our own safety at the scene We can and should all learn from this. Get you vehicle well off the road (as far as physically possible), have a lookout person if available. Wear a reflective vest, Hazard lights on, etc etc In a car in that type of situation you are on your own, be safe and think safety.. It would only take a truck (travelling at speed) to just clip someone to kill them. Trailers ( if there was one) can and do have a mind all their own and bounce and skip over potholes etc. I repeat, it is probably that the driver didn't even know he hit someone If it seems too dangerous, don't do it, call for assistance

Yeah cause I'm sure he had a spare truck or two layin' around in his boot, and we all have reflective vests aye? And 2 meters is a fair way off the road, that means the truck was out of its lane by an extra lane, and he shouldn't be cutting a corner when there is a car there too. What kind of truck was it? People are saying it was 'so big the driver wouldn't feel it' but also saying the trailer is light enough to jump and swing out from hitting a pot hole..

A 30+ tonne truck travelling at 100kmh wont feel a thing if it hits something. No one here knows the exact details and therefore cant jump to conclusions about where people were positioned or what the drivers were thinking. Remember it happened just before 4am on the side of a highway. RIP to the young bloke, and I feel for his friend. Quote: Originally Posted by Irontusk What kind of truck was it? When a trailer is 'light' and unloaded it still may weigh 5-8 tonnes. Light in truck terms but its definately got some weight in it.

ok, 2 meters (which it really wasnt) room to remove the whee, say 40-50 cm wheel brace length, 30 cm, space occupied by person, say 1 meter, thats almost at the edge of the road! i konw what it feels like to hit a roo in a truck, just a bit of a thud thats it next u have to think of, how wide were the lanes? there isnt a set manditory width (north road, outbound just after warrigul road a falcon barley fits, how about 2 semi's lol) oncomin traffic will cause u to move slightly to the left... alot of if's and but's just a tragic accident to the poor guy and his family and friends

a poor kid died, and all you guys can do is argue about how he should have taken more saftey precautions, ffs its not our job to decide how it happened. R.I.P.

agreed...i dont think people have taken into consideration that not only was this bloke hit but so was the car...im fairly certain the driver of the truck would sure as hell felt the impact of the car on the truck.. also if the car was hit..and was 2 metres off the road..then the truck would have been that far off the road as well ?

Having been through that neck of the wood's not too long ago, I can tell you, you wouldn't want to even slow down in your car there for fear of being wiped out by some flatstick truckie, let alone pull up to change a tyre, but people don't change a tyre cause they just felt like it, the boy's had to do it obviously, and there ain't alway's a Bunnings carpark by the side of the road to pull up in.

Even if he was only just off the road, the truck driver should be watching where he's going. Truck driver is at fault no matter what here, he should've seen a car on the side of the road, and if there wasn't much clearance he should've slowed down, no 'ifs or buts' about that. Truck drivers tend to get a 'little' bit careless. Seems like mostly all people who drive for a living end up with a different mentality about driving, buses, taxis, couriers.

it doesn't matter who is at fault, the poor guy is dead leave the 'blame game' for the authorities so many on here are so quick to make judgements based on tiny amounts of info, this shouldn't be and isn't a 'try and convict' game expressing your condolences and everyone else learning something from it is what's important now

Ok well before anyone else goes shooting off their mouth bagging out truckies I'll tell you what I know as i drive a truck and was there shortly after it happened. 1. they dont know it was even a truck that hit him it was raining that heavy you couldn see too foot in front of you his friend said it was a truck but a bus was seen shortly after stopped down the road inspecting his vehicle and a truck and a bus look pretty similar from behind. note also the telegraph story says "There is no description of the truck" 2. he was not parked in a breakdown lane there is no breakdown lane there it is in the middle of roadworks and from what i saw he was parked partially on the road. and it was halfway around a corner. 3. If the truck when off the road to hit him the truck would have crashed cause there is no bitumen after the fog line just thick red mud so if the truck had of gone off the road on a corner and put its wheels into the mud it would have gone over. 4. If it was a truck and quite possibly a B double he probably had no idea he hit him you cant see up the left hand side of two trailers while going around a right hand corner. 5.The car did not get hit despite what the media said so there is probably no damage at all 6. The RTA has a Checking Station at 12 mile creek not far down the road and the SAFE-T-CAM takes a picture of every truck that goes through so the police will have a fair idea which trucks or buses were in the area at the time. So from what I know he was hit by a heavy vehicle maybe a bus maybe a truck whilst parked partially on the road half way around a corner in the pouring rain in an unlit rough section of highway. And too INFLYTE and Chemical. maybe in future you could spare a thought for the many truck drivers how don't take drugs and break the law before you go shooting your mouth off and tarring us all with the same brush. So don't believe all the media tell you. a lot of it is just crap designed to get the public stirred up. And can i say to everyone out there dont park on the side of the road close to the fog line doesn't matter if you have a flat or whatever get it right back off the road. So explain to me why its the cars crahing through there and not the trucks. I know of 5 car accidents that have happened in the road works in about the last 8 weeks none had trucks involved. I don't know of any trucks coming unstuck through there. Its the trucks that need to be carful of the cars speeding going wide around corners doing stupid stuff. and as for the car park comment the was an area the size of ten football field right beside where he parked where the roadworks trucks and graders park. perfect place to change a tyre.

Calm down revneck.. The footage was taken well after the accident and the car had been moved from its original position. were the accident happened there was thick red mud on the side of the corner any truck putting a wheel off the bitumen there would have crashed for sure.
