TUFHSV (highly modified 355 original Walkinshaw) just sold for $85k. He would have got similar (or a little less) if it was in factory original condition At the end of the day there will always be people who want original cars modified or not AUS880 or Corsa won't buy it, but someone will

Would like to see the ages of the guys that want to mod it compared to the guys that say leave it standard. But on the other hand its just a Turbo Calais that HDT molestered when it was new Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thats a good point.... at the end of the day its still a HDT and people would only buy it because its badged HDT.... the BT1 is a good example ones that are unmodifed go around same price as ones that are moded... so who cares if a few things are change its still a BT1 at the end of the day and thats wat counts... so KATSA buddy i think u should drive it ... after all its just a car and the only reason u buy a car is to drive it not to let it collect dust.. my 2 cents Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

as soon as you mod a car you limit the pool of buyers so the more $ you spend modding the less you get back, if that isn't enough reason to not mod then nothing will stop you

It's not all about resale. If it were we would all lead pretty boring lives I personally couldn't think of anything worse than drving a 20 year old stock car

i dunno i was highly against modifications to something of this level, but after seeing the hdt sport the guy on here has and jethdt.....there probably wouldnt be a better feeling then driving a 11 or even 10sec HDT.... As for the money side of things, when your gone you cant take it with you so enjoy well you can

if ur gonna mod it, try not to atleast cut hole's for cooler/speakers etc IMO

why bother modding a brock or similar 'special' VL??? if anyone intends modding why don't they just get any old n/a VL and go for it, it'd look and go the same and be heaps cheaper to do

yes and no, ive thought about modding a diff car but i elected to sell my bt1 as a stocker(unmodded) and mod this i know alot of people will say i have rocks in my head but as ive said before look at jethdt, the calais turbo sport on here and ile30t, power, looks and an ID tag....ud wanna enjoy something like this.... If i were to mod it i would defentely be making custom pipes for no holes cut....the only holes that would be cut in the whole car would be those in the boot for the fuel system, interior wise etc i would not change 1 thing

Have fun, do wat u want and if you change your mind in a few years it can always be taken back to original specs. 20 years ago they were quick cars but now HDT's and walkies beg to be modded with big HP engines.

"money can build you whatever you want, except an unmodified, unmolested, completely original VLT" this man hit it on the head

at the end of the day how often do you go for a drive a see a genuine hdt...not very Plus its not like gt's and monaros that are modified make stuff all coin... And the fact is there were many more monaros and gt's built then the LE turbo(53) Rubin or Corsa- do you gents know how many LE HDT turbos were made in white? And were the 16" momo stars the only wheels released on them??

It's not all about it's value, it's about preserving a piece of history. You hold the power to show off what a home grown 80's performance car was all about to some enthusiastic member of the next generation. Granted it's totally your decision, but you will be appreciated by people who get a kick out of seeing unmolested examples of these cars if you leave it as nature intended and love it for what it is...which is an pretty impressive car for it's time and will always have street cred despite it's less than ferrari-like road manners. I can understand the temptation and If I were in your position I'd find it hard to resist....unless I had a worthy daily to give the "treatment", which is what I'd advise if you can afford to do it.

I'd be keeping it stock. As Russ said, mod a n/a rust bucket.

my mate has modded his HDT calais LE turbo, its not yet complete but already has very strong built motor, modded T66, looking at running around 25+psi, a built 3spd box, turbo diff but beefed up. His is maranello red, beige scheel interior, sunroof, still has the polariser in the engine bay, has the 16inch momo's but he has momo status rims on it at the moment. He says its his car he paid for it so he can do what he likes, he wants to enjoy a car he worked hard for.
