Thanks for your nice comments Kylie
Sadly the only lights that come on during normal operation are the 3 top ones, the others will be off if all your fuses are OK, I didnt want to frighten too many electricians with blinking/blooming lights 8)
You should use/have used Bi-Color LED's green for all good red for fault.....BUT DONT STEAL MY IDEA UNLESS YOU ASK!
PM Me if u want....
Cheers,
Chris
<cough> Well yes, I did actually think about that and a wired 'or'
beeper for audible indication too, but some people out there
are colour blind so a single red led is ok and the support
circuitry needed for dual colour for all 20 fuses gets a bit too
expensive - but hey if someone wants me to design one, no
problems - just be prepared for an engineering charge
And yeah, I'll happily PM you, wanna place an order ?
*grin*
Ill pull out the ol' Protel and give it a whirl, i might even make a prototype cuz ive got all the gear at home....ill let you know....

Here's a short video of what I offer in the kit

? I see a few PM's - I'll get to those later today, cyah

Unbeleivable, absolutely top effort and a welcome sight for the dreaded melting fuse boards in VL's
I would buy one if I had a VL, mabye I should get one for the VK?
Be proud mate, that looks great!

Hi All,
Thanks to everyone for the great feedback about this experiment, mines been working for weeks now without problem and a couple in eastern states will be installed soon.
I have 2 kits uncommitted and no plans to make any more as I am way too busy with
client work, pic of what is in the kit below, cost $100 + postage, this is the
best price I can do to just recover tooling costs, the design will sit on the shelf
after that as I'm too busy unless someone wants to buy it outright,
http://members.iinet.net.au/~erazmus/car_accessories/VL_Fuse_Kit.JPG
I'll continue to keep spares for existing units for at least 12 months, like spades, fuse holders and other parts, so if someone breaks a fuse in the holder spares can be posted over,

<yawn> I couldnt have saturated the market with only 5
kits - geesh !
PS: Yes I know I've answered my own post, bad form,
<groan>
Still only 2 kits left <sigh>

mmmm, Yeah I know how it feels, sob, <mutter> sob,
But then again I might be willing to trade something

whatcha need ?? i got quite a few odds and sorts left over from my last wrecked calais (no sorry, no nosecone before you ask).. PM me if you want to see if we can swap something.
Am about to make more fuse rails and considering
minor upgrade mods, lettering, manufacture etc
Any one else interested in upgrading their melted
fuse rails ?
yep. but *when* i get pulled over for an inspection, is it going to pass roadworthy with one on? also can a run a bigger fuel pump through the board? also, excuse my ignorance, but how to you attach the wires underneath? do i solider or is it all clipped? any pics of it underneath?
sorry 'bout all the questions....

Fair question
The replacement is designed with materials that exceed the
original specifications and all connectors conform to AS3000
wiring rules, size, placement, separation etc so yes it will pass
inspection. Its like any aftermarket electrical product like
relays, wiring, controllers etc Provided they are designed
and built to best practice then it is not an issue, I used to
design and manufacture electronics to handle 150Kw
alternators and battery charging in the jungles of Sabah,
we used 300Kw minimum rated components,
so I tend to over-design to make sure things work and keep
working. I design electronics for a living in all sorts of
fields and power electronics is something I've had
experience in since I did a 'My-Power' inverter Design in 1989.
The PCB is rated to handle 240 Deg C continuously,
as it does so for soldering, and its a 'thermoset' type of
material not a 'thermoplastic' as the old one is - so it
just wont melt - provided your wiring underneath doesnt
catch fire...
There are more pictures on this link:-
http://members.iinet.net.au/~erazmus/car_accessories
Connections are via spade links and I provide spades and a mpeg
series of install videos, might be a bit corny as I did them myself
mostly onehanded but you get the picture
heres a bottom view for reference (of the fuse rail)...
http://members.iinet.net.au/~erazmus...ies/bottom.JPG (http://members.iinet.net.au/~erazmus/car_accessories/bottom.JPG)
I sold all the first batch (other than one for me) at $100 each inc GST
but I might make a few more on the second batch so might
be able to drop the price to around $80 or so, this mostly covers
circuit board tooling, etch and drill setups and labour, for the
small volume I make, not hundreds at this stage I dont
make any profit other than to keep one of my casuals occupied
when there is nothing else to do in the lab.
There are a few people on this list - about 4 who have them and
all seem happy with them, and yes the fuse base material
handles higher current so you will be able to run higher rated
pumps and there are also 3 extra fuse positions over the calais'
ones so you could use them in parallel as well, I expect it
will continuously handle the 30A fuse maximums seen on some
cars *BUT* please please make sure your wiring can handle
that !
I'll be doing some changes in next few days on the design
before I submit it to tooling and fabrication, so prob wont
have any in stock until 3 weeks overall,
