While metho is great, it needs massive injectors that don't idle the best, and it goes off easily and turns to jelly. Not many people feel like changing to pump fuel after every single time they use it, chang ethe map, and run the engine for 5-10 min to clear all the metho out, then change it all back again to race. And on engines with small intake ports, the volume of fuel(you need 2.2 times as much methanol as you do petrol) takes up signicifant port volume and can bring your peak power rpm down and actually start to reduce power and not make a whole lote more than C16 does.
I'd like to know where your buying 20 litre drums of C16 cheaper than we pay for 200 litres/litre. How bout you call your usual supplier and ask for a price again monday and let us know how much it is now. Prices have changed greatly in the last 6 months.

PS, everyone is complaining about the price, the fuel for my race car is $14 a litre. When you spend 70-100g on a car, half of that on the engine, who gives a sh1t how much the fuel costs??

i agree with what you say about methanol but the cars ive seen running on methanol at JPC have idled fine
Found this, pretty interesting......

The other major difference is octane quality. Avgas is short on octane compared to most racing gasolines. Many racing engines with "quick" spark advance curves or with no centrifugal advance have more spark advance at low rpm than avgas and some racing gasolines can handle. The result is detonation, especially during caution periods in circle track racing because all of the spark advance is "in", rpm is low, and part throttle air fuel ratios are too lean for the operating conditions. If the driver does not "work" the throttle back and forth, pistons can be "burned" which melts away part of the aluminum piston material. Inadequate octane quality is one of the quickest ways to destroy an engine. Pistons can be severely damaged during one acceleration where detonation is present and the racer may not know what is happening until it is too late.
For maximum performance and power from a racing engine, racing gasoline will normally provide better performance than avgas. Avgas can be a good gasoline for some applications, but since most racers do not know the octane requirement of their engines, they would be better off with a "real" racing gasoline that will give them the overall resistance to detonation that they need to protect their investment. If someone has spent from $15,000 to $50,000 or more on their racing engine, it is foolish to cut corners on gasoline be sure you have a gasoline with adequate octane quality.
I didn't copy and paste the whole article. What they were saying is that what's good for aircraft isn't necessarily good for cars.
And here is abit more........

AvGas octane numbers are determined in a different test than motor gasoline octane numbers. Do not be confused by the big numbers from the AvGas test method. They are not comparable to motor gasoline test numbers. A 111 octane Racing Fuel tests at 160 on the AvGas Scale.

I more meant the idle and cruise ability of a 1600cc injector if it were used in a street application or to control pump fuel/petrol. While yes I'm sure it will run, it would give far from a usable reult for regular duties

Why not try turps while were on the metho topic also , it will just kill ur pistons like in couple secs i think

what if you run c16 as like an octane booster? like say a 70/30 mix with the 30 being c16 or even just 80/20.
also can some people post some times with and without it.

that article is written to steer people toward buying a true race gas (76 brand in this case), in NZ and AUS avgas is marketed as '100' or '100+' that is the MON rating of it (minimum of 98), the MON of PULP is around 88, in circuit racing generally you arent allowed true race fuels anyway, pulp or avgas are the only options (class dependant).
for a very hi-comp NA or a boosted engine avgas is still better than PULP in 95% of cases.

Lol, yeah, young ollie isn't doing himself any favours when he runs low 11's on pump with ONC16 plates is he Just makes it look slow for a race fuel car
How bout both of you tune your cars on C16 and go out same night Then we can answer the back to back time slip question Tuurbo asked about.

well considering im quite confident i can wiggle a 10.8-10.9 out of mine on pump fuel, in street trim anyway.. i recon you should both tandem lick my balls !!! i'll get kicked off the track before i get a chance to race andy on c16 with no pipes and less a bit of weight, plus another 50 or so hp on top of wat i already have.. :P
I think there is quite a decent time to be had in my car on 25psi with c16.....all things considered..
Im ready when andy is... :P - 100kg HAHAHA !!
let me know when you wanna go tuning andrew..
hehe :P
