hey guys thanks for all your responses :-) 1/ So it seams the consensus it that the original 3L is better than the 2L? Make you wonder why anyone would bother to do the conversion then! Bit new to these engines so could someone plez explain what the following are? 1jz 2jz FTW 26/30 rb26 = LOL BT1

people do the 2L conversion because RB20DETs cost about $700 with all manifolds, turbo etc- whereas a 30et is about 2k... you get what you pay for The best part about an RB20DET is that it looks like a vlt with the front mount etc, but then again- it's not really Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Was in the R32's also? Thought they would have had some ugly RB20DETT abomination in them. http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=117231 Thats useful Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

no they had the 26DETT as well. No probs mate they are a twin cam 2.6L motor, the RB30ET is a single cam 3L motor. If you put the twin cam head from an rb26dett onto the top of an RB30 bottom end you get an RB30DETT (D stands for Double Overhead Cam or twin cam! ), which can also be called an RB26/30 ps FTW means "i'm a geek" Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

there was also rb20det-r.... there was a very limited build of R31 Skyline GTS-R coupes in late 1987. Using a tuned RB20DET-R engine (with a tubular exhaust manifold, a much larger turbo and big front-mount intercooler) these motorsport specials generate a conservatively rated 155kW. The RB20DET-R engine was commonly modified to deliver around 300kW in Group A race trim. around 800 of them were made.

(i didnt say "quick/strong car") and besides if u bought the '26 you would have the same dilemma with the driveline etc, so you'd be spending more money, and then some :P Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
