27-08-07, 16:25 GMT+10#26 I have a vr ss 5.0 litre and this thing i can honestly say is great on fuel. I get about 410 -440kms out of a tank, costs about $80 to fill up. Thats exhaust, cold air intake & auto .But yes you cant beat the sound of a V8.

13-09-07, 14:03 GMT+10#29 I wish I was 400 k's to the tank. Im only getting 200 at the moment. Carby needs a tune though.
Anyone recommend anywhere to get it done in Sydney? I've been out of the game a little while so I feel a little out of touch.

13-09-07, 14:14 GMT+10#30 very simple answer... drive it normally they can be quite efficient... give her a flogg and watch it chew petrol... cant afford to run an 8 buy a 4 cylinder or a 6

13-09-07, 15:08 GMT+10#31 That is normally. I give it a squirt now and then. Got 260 out of it last tank only 'cos I went down to the Gong on Saturday. Not expecting miracles with the carby rebuild but I do expect a little more than 200km to the tank.

Sorry, wasn't referring to you mate... Just the fuel consumption of a 5.0L in general... I get around 400km to a tank (injected) cruisng normally.... give her a squirt here and there and watch the petrol guage go down

13-09-07, 16:01 GMT+10#33 I'm yet to run a full tank through the Calais so can't tell yet what sort of return it's going to give, not that I care right now seeing as it's not my daily. Not sure if I'll be able to tell either seeing as the bugger spits at me when near full so I can't say for sure if it is full or not, plus the fuel gauge likes to 'wander', reading high then dropping rather quick. Then next time I drive it it's a little higher than it was when I turned it off, it's pretty erattic. Think the sender might be dodgy, or the gauge, or any other ideas?
It drives quite well though, and is unmodded so should drive even better in the next few months once I get the exhaust sorted and a decent aftermarket air filter. I got one but it sits too high and has chewed the liner on the underside of the bonnet. It's one of the supercheap cheap jobs. Looking for a low profile filter element to hopefully sort it.

13-09-07, 16:25 GMT+10#34 My VN SS gets around 400kms or so to a tank. I spend about $100 a week on fuel (and I drive about 400kms a week lol)
Thats mixed driving though with a bit of a thrash thrown in.
If I drove sedately on the highway all the time I think I'd get something like 500kms to a tank (thats very sedately though lol)

13-09-07, 19:37 GMT+10#35 Just filled up, took about 50 litres, needle went to full so I guess it's actually full. Still getting the hang of starting a carby car again (this is mysecond one, last one was 12 years ago). Whilst giving the throttle a squirt it stuck on the floor just as the car kicked over, the tacho almost went off the scale and I nearly shat myself. First time it's stuck like that, something else to look at now, great.

holy **** girl (im assuming) when i had my VQ Stato id get approx 380 - 400 k's a tank (whatever litreage their tanks are, i never took much notice) and thats town / highway driving. Just a question MISSDRFT, is that going off your trip computers avg fuel consumption calculation on the lower LCD screens in your instrument cluster? Cause if it is, the age of the car would make that reading surely unaccurate, i never went off mine cause it was erradic.
