What you have is a cast iron cam, it may be standard and it may not be- it could be lumpy as **** there are alot of pretty aggressive ground cast cams out there- just because it "doesn't feel standard" doesn't mean it's Billet. That's like saying my car must have a stainless steel exhaust because it doesn't sound standard.

Thing thats different about my dad and the guy from that ad is my dads been a mechanic for 20 years Hes the one who ordered it and he seems to think its some sort of billet It might not be but theres no need to ****in take a shot at my family when u dont know anything about them Dont really care anymore anyway, its not a standard cam and with the issues my car has had in the last week im just happy it goes again Thanks to those who gave proper answers, might look into it a bit more when i get home and find out more but I wont sit here and let ppl cop **** in my dads direction cause he knows a hell of a lot. Maybe its not a billet cam but no need to say **** like that is all im saying MickNQ: $400 for the cam which is why i wanted to chase up if it was billet or not. Will have it looked at when i get home in the flesh might be able to have explained to me what the go is with it and wether or not it is in fact damaged enough to need replacing Cheers

If that $400 was purely just for the cam with no installation labour you got ripped bad !!! As in bent right the way over and no vaseline was used... I feel sorry for you if that is the case. If it was including labour it would be a different story but you still didn't get what you paid for. No offence to your dad at all but that cam shaft is NOT a billet cam, regardless of what he or anyone else says... No amount of arguing to the contrary is going to change that. It is a cast iron cam. If it is not a standard grind, well good for you - you got part of what you paid for.... Seriously, go and get stuck into the bloke you paid your money to. That is clearly not what it was supposed to be... We cannot help you any more than to point out the facts to you. If you choose not to listen that is up to you. yeh i see where everyone is coming from, and i will look into it when i get home saving it till dad has another look in the flesh b4 i go calling him a liar or anything. 400 wasnt including labour but dad did all the work on my engine so not like i had to pay extra for labour If the cam has marks on it from the lifter (on second lobe from the front) which disintegrated basically haha so yeh not real happy if it has damaged the cam to the point where it needs to be replaced but on the plus side if its not an actual billet cam i can send it back and tell them to get ****ed and give me a proper one. Do apreciate the input guys, Ill chase it up when i get home. send them an email pretending im interested in buying a billet cam off them and ask for a photo and some info Cheers

God some of you people were born straight into a toilet...........seat up! A. Not a billet cam. B. If your old man is a mechanic then he is out of touch. C. If you bought it as a brand new cmashaft then I am assuming it is a crow cam? If so crow charge around $380 for a brand new Turkish cast cam so to all the ****heads saying he got ripped for 400, ask around before you speak!

I did look around before I spoke and all the cam shafts I am seeing are between $165 and about $300. I admit they are prices for Holden V8's but I wouldn't have thought there would be that much of a difference, price wise. Happy to be proven wrong. Hard to find prices for VL 6 Cyl cams... TEMPA **EDIT: Just found a "CROW CAM VL RB30 TURBO STAGE 1 HYD" cam for $349inc GST from American Autos. Here - https://www.americanautos.com.au/cgi...&option=503TX1 (https://www.americanautos.com.au/cgi-bin/fccgi.exe?w3exec=aap.control&session=1447654482175727&formname=prices&newform=product&option=503TX1) I assume that this is of course a cast iron cam...

there is a turkish aftermarket casting for the RB30 that allows you to grind it without chopping into the base circle too much, that would be around 400 ground, a lot of shops refer to these as a "cast billet" yes technically that is a contradiction, but thats what a lot of cam shops call them. A true billet for the RB30 would cost close to 2 grand, then you have a problem with lifter face hardness....... I run one of those turkish castings in my car. hope that helps? I would have expected a better answer from warpspeed........ but then im supprised it didnt turn into a twincharge thread also. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
