Every LSD diff Ive ever pulled appart that hasnt been ever changed has had a black plug champ.

When I was a mechanic at Mitsubishi, it was commonly accepted to test for LSD by having the wheels in question raised, and turning them by hand. If they go the same direction, you've got an LSD. This is also what they teach at TAFE. It was necessary to test so that the appropriate oil is used. VLs are old now, and any kind of coloured aftermarket plug could be in there. Theres at least two acceptable methods on this thread (hand test, disassemble test) - I'm pretty sure your question is answered, 122. Hingo....*shakes head*

as above, or just check the tag and run it on here.. however that will only tell you what the diff was from the factory and not what it is now..

my last VL had LSD and there was a small metal tag attached to one of the bolts on the housing saying LSD High Performance and specifying a certain viscosity of diff oil. Obviously they won't all have this kos if it's been serviced the tag could easily end up on the workshop floor... but it can't hurt to get down there and have a look Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i think he would notice a spool when hes drivving the car. so can rule out a spool.. jack up one side, handbrake off, in neutral, and try to spin the wheel , if it dont spin or is hard to turn most likley lsd of try few donuts and snakeys, as most single wheelers dont like to go left or right most of the time.. or take the diff backing plate cover off also

I cant be bothered reading the whole thread, dont know if it's been suggested but easiest most reliable method is to throw it on a hoist or put it on jack stands. Spin a wheel and if both spin you have LSD. As said above, if it is a spool you'll know about it. Most annoying things in the world

Qualitative was the wrong term, subjective is the word I was looking for. Everyone has a different idea of what hard to turn is, theres no constant system of measure with that method.

ahk yeah gotcha, so "hard" was the subjective term, whereas you wanted him to say something objective like it either will turn or it won't- makes sense.

Intelligence is relative As men become more intelligent they should understand the true intellectual equality of all men, because the relative difference between the least intelligent and the most intelligent is infinitesimally small in comparison to what is yet unknown.
