06-05-07, 17:55 GMT+10#21 I've had my Digi 6 for about year now and not one hiccup. I know of a few others and no problems. maybe the ones you speak of just weren't wired up correctly, because believe me, i work for the authorised Australian distributor for MSD and i reckon 95% of the time it isn't a faulty product, it's the person that wires it up incorrectly. I have had so many calls by people complaining and when we receive the product, it's fried because the owner had no idea.
Sure, turbomustangs is an informative site, but as ive worked in jobs where i have dealt with performance parts on both a national and international level, the yanks are probably the dumbest around. The technical questions they would ask on the most basic of setups just astounded me.
Sure, alot of brands are american, but the actual users are not the most brightest of sparks. And just because an american says so, doesn't necessarily mean it's correct, or the best way. There are countless engine builders and tuners around the world that know alot more than your big name american. In Europe there is a car that has run 7s on radial tyres and pump fuel. Filled up at his local BP servo and run 7s on radials, that is unheard of in the U.S.
Damn, the best computer in the world is Motec, yet most yanks stick with the likes of FAST and BIG Stuff. It doesn't make those computers better, right?
Now going back to the original question, for a mild setup, you can't go past a 6AL and Blaster 2 coil for value for money.

It also comes down to what application your using it and how its being triggerd

08-05-07, 02:37 GMT+10#23 Im in 2 head sets atm with my ignition system.
1) Is to change my unit to a MSD 7al-2plus which will work with my current setup with a cost of $900ish and still require a constant 13 volts at all times to run and possibly need a booster at an extra cost of $465
OR
2) Totally change my system to an IC&E ignition setup using there 7amp ignition box, booster, coil & leads at a cost of $850ish
Just unsure as with the ic&e gear everything is new and he took me through all the test and diagnostics he has at his workshop and proved to me that his ignition system sparks better and more efficient than any we tested there including my msd unit.
Just too many different types out there and knowing which 1 will work at its peak for me is doing my head in!

08-05-07, 15:41 GMT+10#25 i just went and purchased a crane HI6 and LX92 coil, in car timing retard controller and crane MAP sensor for my blown engine, $800 all up and i couldnt be happier, MSD is very overpriced, by memory the equivelent unit to what i have brought to be able to control timing retard was $800 on its own.

09-05-07, 18:45 GMT+10#26 The Crane stuff is good as well, but the parts are harder to get and alot of the time more expensive. I had a crane hi 6 and LX92 coil at one stage and couldn't fault it either.
The reason why the equivalent MSD is more expensive, i guess you are talking about the Digi 7, is because it is a complete unit and it can be hooked up to a laptop and each cylinder can be tuned.
Everything that can be thought of (well almost) MSD have prduced, that's why it is so popular.

The crane unit HI-6TRC
http://www.cranecams.com/index.php?s...lvl=5&prt=1971 (http://www.cranecams.com/index.php?show=browseParts&lvl=5&prt=1971)
Funny enough the HI6 with the LX92 coil package is capable of the same thing as the HI-6TRC with the purchase of the timing controller, was a hell of alot cheaper to buy it this way.
Oh yeh i brought all my stuff from american auto parts, couldnt be happier with there service and advice, rocket industries were a rip

01-09-08, 08:27 GMT+10#28 hi, procomp is not all crap..... i`ve had and fitted crane, mallory and msd ignitions to a few cars and even had crane fireball that had 2 wires missing and another 2 that didnt even work !!!!
my brothers running 11.5 compression and lpg , had a fireball ign , and it was OKAY to start , then i tried a pro comp ignition only - no distributor - now it starts up EVERYTIME , FIRST TIME....
maybe u just had a defective product ? doesnt mean just because its a well known brand , that is better than the rest ...
