28-04-07, 12:02 GMT+10#22 If it was my VL, I would get a respray, and just generally give it a tidy up, then put the rest of the money in the bank, and leave it for something else.

28-04-07, 12:29 GMT+10#23 mate every situation is different. it all depeneds on what else has been done to the car, and what condition its in.
sometimes it is more 'economical' to sell the one you have, and buy something allready with some money put into it.
i was gonna pour 5k into my R31, instead, i sold the R31 for 5K, had 10K to spend, bought a modified import (stock are 7K-ish), with another 7K of mods i would estimate, for 9k. put about 5K into it in not even a year, and i'll strugle to sell it for 12k. if i were to start with a stock one, 7K + 7K + 5K = 19K....you catch my drift.
i'm still at a loss but no so great.
point of this post - dont put money into an n/a VL (unless its absolutely stunning, and all it needs is a turbo motor).
chris.

If i were to just up and buy another car, i would keep my current one and spend 4.5k on a second car which may be an option. WTB vl turbo for 4.5k.
she agreed?
i think she would rather u not pi55ing 4.5k down the drain

28-04-07, 14:18 GMT+10#27 look at it this way,
YOU WILL GET MORE FOR THAT EXTRA $4500 IF YOU SELL, AND BUY ANOTHER VL.
if you like gettin less for your money, throw your money away into your n/a.

29-04-07, 16:20 GMT+10#28 if the na is perfect the way it is and you really want to keep it,then keep the car and then go for a turbo engine, either in good condition, or have one built.
if you sell it for another(as you said) it will need things doing to just get it up to what yours is now.
if your engine is good, you could turbo that, but what i found with my na to turbo engine is things can and do stuff up,(it is 20 years old). mine got a knocking noise in the piston(gudgeon pin) was fine for a year, now it chugs and blows white smoke from yeasterday, 4th cylinder i think.
do it right from start, get turbo engine.

I've got 18's, exhaust and lowered.
How much is it though to put an rb20 engine and box in a vl?

Do you still not understand? why would you bother spending $4500 on an NA VL? Yer at the end of the day you have a nice VL, wow it might even go a bit better than a stock vl, or you have a cheapo converted vlt that you will end up spending 10k on when everything stuffs up. If i were you i would either
A) Sell, buy a good stock vlt, or vlct for say 6k, theres plenty around
B) Sell, buy a half decent VS Calais or somthin for 5-6k, newer, comfier, probly go about as hard as a stock vlt.
or theres your idea
C) Spend $4500 on an NA VL, at the end of the day, its still a vl, worth nothing and did i mention still a vl!!!!!

RB20 conversion could easily be done for under $2k

05-05-07, 00:16 GMT+10#36 if i had that sort of cash i would convert my 5.0l calais vl to manual, but see what is cheaper and afordible you will need the spare cash incase of anything goes wrong.

05-05-07, 00:32 GMT+10#37 quik38, it seem slike you already know what you want to do with your money, so why not go out and do it?
from skimming this thread it seems you dont want a manual conversion, you dont want to sell the car and you do want a turbo engine thats going to be reliable.
seems like the most obvious option is to get a rb30 turbo engine (if you cant find one, and only then, get an rb20) which id imagine would cost around 1500 to 2000 for a good one and then 500 fitting, and then spend the other 2k on upgrading the gearbox/diff in some way.
if i were you, id forget about the 4.5k and just concentrate on getting a turbo motor fitted, or if your current engine is healthy, getting that converted.

06-05-07, 14:51 GMT+10#39 even if an rb20 conversion cost you 1k it would still not be worth it, rb30e is nearly faster, if not faster in some cases.

i highly doubt that....an rb20 chucked in with suitable 4.11's or something would flog an rb30e neday...
