22-04-07, 01:08 GMT+10#21 I cant see Owners of these car park spots making a thousand cars leave, i say run it anyway!
Make sure you behave and if cops throw out a few defects in defence then so be it, you still win.

22-04-07, 09:42 GMT+10#22 I have been on supercruise several times, I think Supercruise 8 was the 1st time i went.
That year it rained. the crowd thinned out a bit for a while, then in the afternoon when the sun came out the cars started gathering up at the lighthouse again. Before long there was a crowd of people stopping traffic, not letting anyone through unless they did a burnout. In the time i was there, they stopped L platers, parents with their kids in the cars, even one elderly couple.
In the end the police blocked the road at both ends and gradually shut down the commotion Do you think they did the wrong thing there? This is an Example of about 10% of the people there that day wrecking it. Imagine how hard it was for the organisers to try and get the next years cruise approved after that!
Supercruise 10 - was supposed to be to Albion Park Airport, It wasnt long before 2 Idiots decided to show off their impeccable driving skills on the grass near where all the cars were parking. soon after the police closed the airport off and the majority of the cars ended up across the road at the servo - which caused all the parking/noise issues etc. In the hour or so i was at the airport i saw about 3 burnouts and these 2 idiots on the grass. Another example of a minority wrecking it for everyone.
So theres 2 examples that spring to mind.
I love Supercruise, I love the cause, the cars, its just a great day, but unfortunately there is always the minority that will wreck these events. There is nothing that anyone can do to stop it. Its too much to expect the organisers to be responsible for everyone that attends, but thats the way it is.
They keep trying to do the right thing by getting council approval, but with the track record of the event you can see why it is getting harder and harder to get support.
Now after all that - It does annoy the hell out of me that the Childrens Hospital will not even support the event after years of the event supporting them. Fair enough if they no longer want to be associated with it, but at least show recognition for the previous years support.
I cannot beleive the direction the police have gone to stop the meeting at Kingsgrove. After that any residents of the area that didnt really care about the cruise will surely hate it now. Even if they had a few police at the site, which they are doing anyway, to hand out defects or fines or whatever, at least it would not have gotten us any further offside with the residents of the area. Residents having to go through a checkpoint or meet guests at the checkpoint is terrible. Between that and the newspaper article i dont think the event will ever be allowed in the area again.
We should be allowed to cruise wherever we like, but you can see why its getting harder and harder.

22-04-07, 13:23 GMT+10#25 but its a catch 22 situation. the "modified car comunity" are trying to be decent citizens by raising money for a good cause, by doing it their way and holding a ecnt size cruise. all we ever do is get hammered by residents or police or anyone targeting nice cars, but when we tryt and do something nice or 'morally upstanding' to show we arent a bunch of wankers, they stop it, its just a vicous cycle isnt it??

22-04-07, 14:10 GMT+10#27 doesn't give us much incentive to behave in days like these where even the most responsible of efforts by the larger modified car organised community (or as close to one as we have) is completely ignored and disrespected by the Police force. The world works upon the principle of give and take, and it seems these days that there isn't a whole lot of give going in the direction of modified car owners. I know it's a ridiculous comparison but if this was country to country politics, then this is how both the great wars were fuelled. All that is happening is growning discontent amongst the youth and modified car owner community.

22-04-07, 14:16 GMT+10#28 jack i do agree with some points ya make..
but at the end of the day NSW has pretty fvkd up laws...and leaders and police fall into that category.

22-04-07, 14:22 GMT+10#29 When hospitals receive donations, they have to declare these to the government. As a result, the government gives them less funding and that money goes somewhere else. They won't miss the money.
Local police and highway patrol don't make these sort of decisions, the powers-that-be do. Sounds like a lot of typical unfair cop bashing... Everyone hates cops until they need them for something.
Has anyone even confirmed this information and spoke to the NSW Police about it? Yeah...

22-04-07, 14:58 GMT+10#30 Did you read the article? It was one of the head officers from Wollongong that is behind nearly all the turmoil of the 2007 supercruise, so unless that article/web page is a complete falsification, then it is the effort of one of the head officers in the state.
PS i do not appreciate any police name calling in this thread, by doing so people only come accross as part of the unsavoury minority that give police a foundation to treat the rest of us like dirt.

22-04-07, 19:17 GMT+10#31 At the end of the day, the damage is done. The Police will never think anything positive of people in modified car's, so why fight it!?
Just go to W.S.I.D on Wednesday, and save yourself time and money dealing with defect's and fine's...

Igor's right, and with the history of Supercruise described above by 87 Calais ( burnouts, idiots blocking roads) it's no wonder many people lump all modded car owners into the one 'hoon' basket.
These people that do this merely confirm the beliefs of many and reduce the likelyhood of it being approved in the future, hence this event being refused the o.k. by Police
Why are people so up in arms here? because a 'cruise' has been shut down prior to the day, nobody has been banned from donating $ regardless
Like I said earlier why not a show of goodwill by those intending to go, give you donation anyway even though the event is called off.
What is more important to you: the cruise or donating $ to the CHW ???????
the answer is clear so pls stop this psuedo show of concern for the CHW and realise how selfish some of you are sounding (not directed at you Jack)

22-04-07, 22:09 GMT+10#33 no worries Russ i guess i knew when i clicked to begin this thread it would end up in a debate between you and myself haha.
I don't think the guys blocking off streets demanding burnouts reflect modified car owners at all really, i mean there they are, on the biggest cruise day of the year, and they are without a car, infact they are on the side of the street yelling at other cars, chances are they don't even own one or they would be cruising/protecting their car from the rowdy crowd.
No one is claiming that the only reason the cruise exists is to benifit charity, if that was truely the case then there would be no cruise this year, simply an account to donate money into. The event existed as a kind of trade off (in my mind at least), we donate a bit of money for a good cause and to get the message accross to the younger guys with their cars, and in return the police and community give us one day off during the year where we don't have to feel like a virgin deer in a gaming park fuel of trigger happy hunters armed to the teeth. It's one sided, what was so wrong with the way it was run before? Before the police left the modified cars alone, but if someone did the wrong thing at all they were very quickly dealt with in a harsh matter (which due to the nature of the day, was definately deserved). Now it seems that was too much effort, and instead they will punish everyone in an even more senseless and un called for manner.

22-04-07, 22:25 GMT+10#34 that deer comparison is very well put, i like your work
I understand your points but the world is changing and you'll find as you get closer to my age that burnouts and groups of revving cars that take over some nice areas (like the W'gong lighthouse) really piss you off and can be intimidating for families and others simply trying to enjoy sunshine/fresh air and peace and quiet.
this stuff is simply not tolerated as much these days and so the police act swiftly and decisively, anyone intending to try to defy the police on Anzac Day be prepared to suffer the consequences ($ and licence and car)
Brickies at Homebush was on in my day, several people were reportedly killed there street racing. Police made regular visits to discourage people gathering there.
Botany Bay area has become a nightmare for locals, restaurant owners with packs of young guys causing noise and trouble at night. Various police ops have been run and local council responded by shutting car parks at night.
Some of this stuff is literally 'anti-social' behaviour and the guys doing it should wake up and realise it. Would anyone here seriously want/allow every man and his dog to gather outside their home very night and leave rubbish, do burnouts and keep you up all night?? of course not so pls consider others when AND WHERE you drive

22-04-07, 22:38 GMT+10#35 All great points Russ but lets not get off track here, the Supercruise was not about the minority of carless drunken bogans trying to start a Summernats on main street, it was about the people who bring their cars out for a few cruises a year, knowing that for once they don't have to have an mild heart attack every time they see a HWP car in the distance behind them, and the majority of people did do the right thing. I have frequented the Wollongong lighthouse many, many times over the last few years and there is always a very strong police presense there, and hence, no burnouts. I have no problem with the police impounding immediantly the car of any driver who does the wrong thing on a day such as this, and no one else intending to do the right thing should either, so why can this method not be tried first? Shutting down the cruise seems like they are putting glue in an open wound to fix it, it might help at first, but in the long run it won't help, it might even be counter-productive.
I guess i'm not the best one to talk about Burnouts, i have without a doubt built for myself through that method a reputation with my local police that will take years to subside, and without question i will continue to pay the price of attention long after the deed was done, the sorrys have been said and the last tyre has span (which it did last year, i promised many people including myself). So maybe my word will never mean anything to anyone that matters, but hey i feel like i am sitting here watching both sides make all the wrong decisions, and the sad part is there are so many victims, yet we can't work together towards a solution.

22-04-07, 22:43 GMT+10#36 Jack, I suspect you'd have a better chance of success if you were the actual one organising the cruise as you have a good way with words and a pretty good sense of balance about this issue.

22-04-07, 23:01 GMT+10#37 Maybe if it was us, then we could reach a better conclusion, i just know that by the police shutting down the cruise no questions asked, and the cruise organisers pretty much telling readers of their website "**** the police", neither side is doing the greater good justice in the long run, but simply looking for short term satisfaction.

23-04-07, 09:55 GMT+10#40 after reading that you can see where both sides are coming from but i believe a certain police force should be encouraging good driving at events like these and with the help of local and even federal government could almost turn the charity day into a driving billboard for road safety. just my 2cents
