My question is, what should i look for? what else will i need for the set-up should i leave any of the current stuff in? and most importantly how much is this gonna cost me? cheers in advance can you install it yourself? build the box yourself? head-unit - $300 alpine/eclipse jaycar splits - $150 jaycar 4X130 - $300 box+wiring - $150 if you can do it yourself box+wiring+install - ~$500

I would save money by not even getting an aftermarket head unit. They aren't a bad bit of gear. Not great but on a budget i would leave it Then spend the cash like so: Front Splits: Spend most of your money hear. I have Alpine X Types with crossovers. Best money I spent on my sound system. This is where the majority of your sound system is focused so spend the dollars here. $350+ Amplifier: If you have back speakers aswell get a 4 channel amp. The better the amp, the better your splits will sound. No point in getting an awesome set of speakers and a BOSS amp. I had my splits in for about 2 months without the amp, biggest mistake ever. THey sounded good, but now with the amp they sound awesome! Look at between $350-$600 Sub: Not a nessecity but go for a 12" for all round performance. I would just get a $250 or so sub if your looking for a basic set up. Run this off the 4 channel or get a 2 channel monoblock Wiring: Dont go cheap. Get thick stuff. Battery: UPGRADE!!! My battery cost me $350 but compare it to a stock and.... Why bother explaining, just do it Install: Find someone good, not cheap. Good installation increases sound quality. El Cheapo style increases annoyance with audio gear
