16-05-07, 12:58 GMT+10#21 It always amazes me how insurer's put a certain value on a car when you have no hope in hell of ever replacing it for that value!
My current insurer will only cover my Walky for $50K max at the moment. However I have been offered over $60K for it. Therefore if my car goes missing I have to look for another $10-15K to try an replace it.... and that's if I find one as there are hardly any going around for sale at the moment.
cheers,
Dave.

Yeah like that's the thing isn't it, you've got no hope in getting a replacement car under 50K now, specially if you've lost a low kayed and well kept car.

16-05-07, 17:59 GMT+10#25 shannons will insure your car for what it costs to replace. however if you sell it to JOHN, and JOHN rings up to insure it and only paid 25k, they will only insure his FINANCIAL INTEREST in the vehicle, which is 25k.. bit silly but thats how it works...
as for agreed values. get someone who knows whats goin on and you'll get what u want...

I didn't bother a second time, Shannons was good, so I went with them.
I have my walky insured for more than $70k with shannons now. I know my mate in sydney has his insured for about the same as mine (his has under 20,000kms). We didn't have to take it in either.
So yeah I guess it does depend on who you speak to.
Craig
Mine is insured for $60,000 and they were happy to raise it from $40,000 to $60,000. All i had to do was provide photos. But now its under insured again so i think ill be ringing them again.

16-05-07, 18:28 GMT+10#27 I had no trouble recently uppping the insured value of my cars. They had a look at one at a car show and the other they saw pics of in a magazine. Biggest hassle was trying to work out a figure for them.

20-05-07, 14:03 GMT+10#31 If they(Suncorp) go by Redbook like everyone else for market value it'll be $21500.Like to see someone replace a Walky for that amount.

20-05-07, 14:52 GMT+10#32 Pretty competitive business insurance and yeah I don't think many of them would use anything other than the red book value as you say Oma.

20-05-07, 22:16 GMT+10#33 It is suposed to be the cost for me to replace it, taking into account the klms, condition, etc. I got told they look at current prices of what walkies are going for.
A mate smashed his VN SS a few years back and the red book on them was around $7500. The insurance company (suncorp) ended up giving him $12,000 for it as they couldnt find one with the same amount of klms as his for any cheaper. He had his insured for "replacement cost" as well.

20-05-07, 23:37 GMT+10#34 dont you feel a little cheated not knowing how much you would get paid out if your car was written off?
Personally, I wouldnt accept anything less than an Agreed Value, that way I know EXACTLY what I am paying my insurance for....

How many KMs on your car mate, how would you describe the condition of the car?

if what you say is actually true, then you got a complete retard on the phone... which i highly doubt. I worked for shannons, 3 speeding fines in 3 years is 100% a-ok... maybe 3 losses of license and they would knock you back.

Sounds awesome! Was that the one from the car dealer in Perth owed by a footyball player or similar last year?
