Well is the guy talking about the VL 304 or the newer injected motor?
I don't think you can put in an older 308 legally. I always thought you couldn't put an old engine in a newer car, but you can put a newer engine in an older car.
Don't put a carby engine in your VL. I would much rather EFI in my VL. The smoothness, flexibility, reliability. Think about it. My mate has a 5.7 VS motor in his VK Calais converted to carby.
If you can track down a VT engine, its by far the best of the EFI 304s. Considering it has sequential injection and the lifter bores clearenced for roller lifters.

u gonna do a transplant or buying one with it already in?? either way i think youll have to use a 304 for legality reasons, the vls came with 304s anyway. no disadvantage, no way on this planet you will ever notice the 4 cubic inch difference if you're gonna do the conversion or has a little bit of extra cash to spend, go the efi conversion you will never look back.
What about the Black 5ltr engines in VL's, weren't they 308???
Can't see why you can't put either 304 or 308 in them, as long as pollution control carp is met, then whats the problem?
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
