05-10-06, 03:25 GMT+10#21 Biggest problem I see is how much airflow the stock AFM can measure, i thought it was almost maxed on a boosted car with stock turbo, how is it going to measure the airflow that a gt40 turbo is going to suck?

05-10-06, 03:31 GMT+10#22 As far as I know they can be upgraded to run a Z32 off a fairlady that is a bigger unit for a higher rate of flow.

05-10-06, 07:53 GMT+10#23 I think its great! Exspecially as i allready have access to all the tools and a tuner for free

05-10-06, 13:33 GMT+10#25 yeah or the z32 as it's the same plug, and i beleive mounting it into the cooler piping
put also fells i'm not talking about getting the 400kw monsters, this is for alot of the little peope out ther looking for around and up 300kw mark
also htye havn't really pushed it for huge numbers for the vlt ecu so depending who wants to be the test mule, i believe sam would be interseted in trying!

05-10-06, 13:48 GMT+10#26 Funny thing is Poohkies I was talking about this the other day with a mate of mine and I myself was actually going to approach him about it just to get a real good idea of what we could get away with on the std ecu and wether it will run bigger injectors, pumps and ignition timings without to much hassle.

05-10-06, 13:50 GMT+10#27 already been there, done that, he comes to darwin this month
i have 700cc injectors gt35/40 couple things enough to make 300rwkw and he said it wouldn't be a problem!
and the cool thing was it wouldn't take anymore than a couple hours to tune it!

if you actually acheive it with chipping the ecu, thats pretty impressive imho..

Your talking about much more power than I am lol. Let me know how you go with it as I would be interested to see the results as it may change a few things that I do to my combo if the ecu will allow me to do it

05-10-06, 14:09 GMT+10#30 i currently half way through a wolf3d install,
if i had known about this before hand would never have brought the wolf,
as soon as the wolf is finished installed i will the sell it as a whole unit and then purchase everything again (as i sold the standard ecu and loom)
another mate up here is doing the same thing but with a gt30/40 so will keep u posted as soon as he sorts his **** out
i created this post to see if anyone else has gone down this avenue, cause if i had none before hand i would never have sold all the stuff,
currenlty purchising the wolf sensors install and tune the wolf would have cost clost to 3k now 3k or $600 and i will probably get better results out of the remapped ecu!

05-10-06, 14:12 GMT+10#31 surely the microtechs, link, motecs, autronics have way more features that a stock ecu
sure u dont have a "factory" cold start. its not a daily driver anyway...

05-10-06, 14:14 GMT+10#32 Sorry I farked up with the post. Yes an aftermarket allows you to go to map or chopper disk or CAS depending on brand and application but at the end of the day they all do the same thing! They all control ignition and fuel and make the process occur. Now tell me 600 to re write a std ecu to do that or 2g plus in an aftermarket ecu that does the same thing? VN - VS Commodores and now the LS1 brigade have been doing this for years with excellent results with blowers turbo's and all sorts of mods so if they can do it for them wny not for us.
And poohkies there have been guys doing this for years!

05-10-06, 14:29 GMT+10#33 Yep boost, i just got stuck in doing what everyone does on here, then u here all the horror stories about car's not running properly hard to start not fuel economy etc,
then i get onto this guy after i've already spent $1800 on an ecu plus the extra $1200 for the install and ****, when icould have keep what i had, had it remapped and my car would have been running for months
one of the guys up here does the ls1 remapping, he recons he has even found an option that he can use for nos, now that's pretty good for a standard ecu, why would u go aftermarket?

05-10-06, 14:48 GMT+10#34 i love this idea but the flexibility option is the only down fall ! mate in all honesty i know where ur coming from i like the std computer remapped ! but with the wolf etc if u have a really good guy tune it and spend time with it ull get great fuel economy, cold starts etc !
with good aftermarket computers u can have several maps ie one for high way driving , one for city/economy driving, street perfomance map and a drag map for the quarter and u can easily change from mode to mode depending on what u want !
with the remapped computer ull be driving with 300rwkw all the time and u have to remap it if u perform further upgrades
another option is to make to maps have 2 std vlt computers but with differant maps one with the wild power and one with conservative power ! all u need to do is lift out the kick panel and put in the other ecu
just dont put the full house pwr in when ur mrs is driving

05-10-06, 14:56 GMT+10#35 not really, u wild the boost up if 2 25psi,
or i leave it at 12
so i'll have my economy like with any ecu

You really have a good point in what you have said as a whole..
itll be interesting to see 300rwkw's so when you do make sure you prove it.. even 220-250 would be a good effort..
Of course with a/market ecu's yoru going to have more options and the easiness to cahgne fuel maps with using a laptop etc but the fact is that well not many people can afford Motec's, Haltech's etc..
This is an excellent alternative for people not wanting to spend big $$$$ so i say go for it..
Ill be having mine done by Sam at Dr Drift as all ive heard is good news/results..
Not only from word of mouth but from a mate of mine who had a SR20DET put in his 180 for a good reasonable price..
Keep us posted phookies..

05-10-06, 16:13 GMT+10#37 so what ur saying is the std remapped computer will adjust fuel and ignition etc as u up the boost so u could up the boost with a tpiece or electronic boost controller and mixtyures will change?? i thought it was a set map ie if u plan on runing 15psi then thats how the map will remain and is only tunned for that psi ??

05-10-06, 16:17 GMT+10#38 no, even the shop that will tune my wolf, they will give it one tune that can take the amount of boost, and then turn it down,
so when sam tunes the standard ecu the tunes it, and as long as the injectors will keep up u can put more boost into it
no difference from a standard ecu and then putting 15psi into it, it still works as long as u can get enough fuel to it

06-10-06, 09:56 GMT+10#39 think of it this way, would you prefer a 20 year old pc with a new operating system loaded onto it or a brand new computer? which would run better?

06-10-06, 10:12 GMT+10#40 it's getting a new chip put into it, so it's not exactly using a 20 year old pc?
