yes of course it wont be cheaper building it yourself. But in saynig that you dont have to spend 40k to have a 10second car. alot of these cars that have had 40k spent on them and are a 9-10second car are 99% show cras as well. Eg 8-10k worth of paint 5k for interior 3k for rims theres almost 20k there, at the end of the day its up to the persons preference. Personally from buying a worked car and blowing 20k on it to blow up on me within 500kms i wish i would of spent that 20k on my own. Or in heindseit a DEPOSIT for a house Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I'm with ya on that house thing LOL ! Me and 4 other close mates were out the other night and one of em says to me "you know man if we put all our money that we've wasted together we could be renting a sick house in vaucluse or something and party everynight and have b*tches everywhere " Geez that would be good only its waaay too late for me LOL Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Mate thanks alot thats actually a great idea. Theres no point in converting the n/a calais to turbo just like that, as someone said I would be living on a time bomb just waiting for things to break. Like you said its a good idea to get the bottom end done first then the go fast goodies. So when you say get the bottom end done first what would I need to buy for the n/a vlct to bring it up to calais turbo specs or enough for it to handle fair amount of power and how much would I be looking at. Also what would be diffrence in price for 2nd hand and brand new for those items listed. And one final silly question but I'm new to vl's so I'm gona ask. For the items you list eg. injectors or pistons do I have to wait till the cars turboed to fit them or do they just bolt on like that without a hassle since they are the same engine.....

Yeah well my mate bought a car from overeast, its a burgandy kinda and silver calais turbo, 10s car. Straight away he has been having major problems, throttle cable then the turbo went, injectors.. now he is swapping to EMS. 22k car + $6k he is spent fixing it to how it should normally have run when he bought it. Fark that im young and know a little bit so I ripped the motor out and got the important bits done by pros (machine work) and did the strip down and assembly myself. Cut the engine building cost by half and got to make sure its all together nicely. As someone said- Labour is the killer.

i agree with both sides to a degree! and im not saying a 10 second car here but anyone can buy a car then say they done it all in magazines and crap!............. i would rather build my own i do all my own engine work ect, ive saved $9,000 on a paint job as im a painter by trade ect. But at the end of the day if you spend $$$$$ buying or building a car whats it matter in the end.. its all money!!!!! i do it cos i love it ... we all come to this site cos we are car freaks.... and there wouldent be many people here who hate spending money on there cars! and if there were they would have brought a datsun 180B and taken up a low impact sport like ping pong my 30 cents

Will >>> 550cc injectors, vl turbo manual ecu, bosch 600hp fuel pump, and vl turbo pistons fit on to a n/a vl and if so will there be an increase in power even if its minimum. These are the mods I'm thinking of getting before I go ahead with the conversion.

Here's something else to think about. i have changed every single 'turbo' part of my car. So it would have worked out heaps cheaper for me to have started with a na. but not as much fun!

Didn't the Rajabs build a 9 sec VL years ago using a NA bottom end . The red 1 with the silver bumpers & convo pro front runners . Same as Ben Visconte with his Halequin Calais , when I first read about that car , I remember it at first having an NA bottom end too . A mate of mine from this Forum made 305 hp at the wheels with has NA convert . Sure it had computer , injectors etc done , just goes to show though that it can be done , drove like that for 2 years & in that time it blew 1 head gasket . Big Deal . In my opinion it comes down to the condition of the motor when it's converted & the TUNING . Im not saying to expect miracle dyno sheets or time slips , but if you're sensible with it , it can be reliable . As far as the oil pump issue is concerned , has anyone ever wondered why their catch can is always filling up . The bigger oil pumps pump the sump dry , & the drain backs in the head are very small . I know a well known engine builder in Sydney who swears by NA oil pumps .
