if you drill and tap 2 holes from the front you can use a balancer puller on it, that way you dont **** the sprocket. a bit of heat and wd40 helps too

digging up the past here, but just wondering what size are the bolts to suit the harmonic balancer? also anyone know how much oil, if any, i'll need to drain out of the sump when i'm replacing the crank seal? it's only about 500klm old so i'd prefer not to have to drop the whole lot.

Dont have to drain any oil mate. Unless you put 10 litres in it to begin with...Lol.

ah even better. thanks for that wyndup. any idea about the bolt(s) size ? or should i use one of those claw type pullers? i'm going shopping shortly to get a puller....

the bolt size is a common size on the motor, just find one that fits and take it with you and get longer ones. the claw ones would work but slip off sometimes.

did this project on the weekend, it was quite a head *** and that was without being able to get the sprocket off the crank!! fortunately my leak was from the top seal (was hard as a rock), there was oil and crap everwhere inside the timing cover. changed the belt and tensioner pully while i was there and put a new timing belt on although the old one was only about 50tho k's old --- if (when) the crank seal leaks i'll be getting a pro to do it for me.
