Yet i can fuel inject a 308 and put it in! Actually, id have to argue that its a 308 and not 304 as i can put any motor in that was an option for my model of car as long as suspension and brakes are updated. Hrrrrm... ill just say its a 308 Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Engine number will give it away You have to meet the emissions of the car, but if the engine is newer then you have to meet the emissions of the engine. So yes, you should be running CAT's. Engineering is an interesting point - I can't find anywhere where it says you HAVE to do it. I think as long as you retain all emissions gear of the factory setup (CAT's, airbox etc), then you don't have to do it. Like I said I haven't bothered up ringing the EPA or VicRoads, I'll cross that bridge if I get defected over it. Which I won't, cause I'm selling the car. And if I dont' sell, it's going injected gas. So either way, no emmisions Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

in nsw if you are running a later (pollution type) block you need to run that models pollution block but if for example you put efi heads and everything on a red motor you only need to meet the red block requirements

My understanding is that you cannot remove or disable any factory emissions equipment installed on an engine. Technically this covers the entire inlet and exhaust tract as well as management and fuel system (inc fuel tank). The only concession they had a few years ago was that noise levels for pre adr cars were a bit relaxed, but not sure if this is still the case. But, the interweb is notoriously full of it at times so I always reckon double checking with a local signatory is the only way to be 100% sure.

Your noise level thing is correct, my car can legally sit on 96dB whereas a newer car must be under 90dB... Every 2dB is double the previous noise... so its pretty cool.

yeah, check with your department of transport but im quite sure a pre-73 car shouldnt have to run cats. its an argument to be had. you know that little thing they stick up your exhaust to check your emmisions?? its just a high tech thermometer. because when unleaded fuel burns it emits cyanide (spelling?) into the atmosphere so cats were invented. and all they do is make the gasses reach a certain tempreture that enough of the bad stuff gets burnt off. so when the local constabulary stick that thing up your exhaust, if it doesnt read the correct temperature they know if you've gutted your cat or dont have one at all. ofcourse leaded cars didnt need cats so a pre vl wont have them. (not sure if vk's were unleaded or not). in saying this, a pre 73 car shouldnt really need to meet later emission standards but it will be an argument.. Its kinda like putting a 700hp engine into a pre 50's car that didnt require seatbelts. lawfully you wouldnt still have to put them in....not such a bad idea but Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

im pretty sure that u have to meet the emissions from the donor car, and on that note, u have to run return lines, tank, charcoal cannister etc etc out of the donor car

just put a twin system on it with piped cats and worry about it when you have to. wont be hard to get a couple of cats welded in to clear a defect or get it registered/engineered

its not the defect ide be worried about, its the multi-thousand dollar fine Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

If your going the twin system just run twin high-flow cats if running cats does turn out to be the legal requirement. i mean, lets face it, you lose power running a street (or semi-street) legal exhaust system anyway...its not a drag car with no pipes...ya get what i mean?? so in reality running cats wont make all that much difference.

Just sifting through vicroads mod guides.. The replacement engine must be of the same age or newer (of the car), and must meet all the emission standards applicable to the vehicle's and engine's date of manufacture. So you have to meet both the car's and the engine's emission controls.

Source some high flow cats then?? just a thought...if your to run twin cats, one off of each pipe, in reality if you used standard cats off a 6cylinder like a 6cyl VL on one bank of 4cylinders wouldnt this work out round the same as a high flow cat?

Twin 3 inch cats, full exhaust no mufflers. Do it.

Ill be going for twin 2.5 with cats and mufflers. That'll be damn loud and get me into enough trouble. 3 inch? Better off writing 'im a cok head defect me' on the window Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah must comply with emission controls for which ever is newer.. car or engine. I have twin 3" twin cat into single 3" and its not that loud.. oh and pacemaker tri-y's.
