fark guys u guys get alot of of your cars do u think im due for a dyno tune? how much r they ruffley and what should i say i want done, as i new to the vlt world
I get about 300-400ks out of a tank, estimate about ~200rwkw and auto.
Going through on hills runs, etc really chews through the petrol through (as i found on the weekend haha).
R31 skyline with RB30 ET on 12psi, 3 inch exhaust, nothing wild, manual 3.7 gears , 0.838 overdrive (not as tall as vl box) approx 160rwkw.
460km per tank - city driving in Sydney - no highway stuff, plenty of stop start and no long trips at all, mainly 20-25ks to work then back etc filling it at near empty (59 litres or just under)
equates to 7.8km/l or 12.8 l per 100kms.(city)
Did this mileage consistently for over 12 months ,measured by filling tank, driviing then filling again, no bs from a trip computer strangely it only did about 12-12.5 l per 100kms when NA. These figures were not obtained by staying off the boost either, would give anything a run.
Never did a real long trip after turboing it but i'm sure i could have got up around 600kms from a tank on a trip.
The thing that really pisses me off, i sold it and now i have an NA auto doing 14l per hundred and half as quick......................
Just recently I was getting about 520-530km per tank, mainly highway (Melbourne to Ballarat every day), but with a bit of city chucked in for good measure. Don't know what power I making, but prolly wouln't be much more than standard turbo power. The tank got pretty low tho.
Also, don't forget, if your doing a lot of highway driving and ya got big rims (I only got 15's), that will give you a few extra km's as well.
how people manage to get 400km/tank is beyond me.
i get around....... 300-350 maybe... if i dont push it, and thats with some freeway driving and some stop-start ****. and doesnt involve much 'pushing'.
setup is a NA - converted to turbo, running between 10-15psi.....
"most highway km's with min boosting bout 450km tank.
330kw 20psi"
OMGWTFBBQ!!!
thats damn good... ur actually driving around all the time with 330rwkw ?
and u get 450kms ?? u must feather it !!
Sounds like alot of the cars out there are in serious need of a good tune and look at, that sort of milage is stupid despite the fact the cars are worked or not.
my car is fairly stock and has a high flow and a 3" exhaust and gets a bit over 300 kms off a tank of ultimate and i think it could do heaps better, manual too.
it sounds like there is such a variation here that its not funny....
i would expect most people who have between 120 and 220 rwkw to be getting around 350 km to a 60 odd litre tank of fuel. any less than 300 and there would have to be something wrong or your a boost junkie or something.
what do you guys recon an average modded vlt with a few mods, in good mechanical order, maybe 180 rwkw and driving sensibly with a few thrash sessions should get per tank?

People should still be looking at 450-550 km's per tank, honestly.
i got around 450km out of each tank around town in my old VLT - 5spd with 187rwkw.
it could have been better too, it was still a nice rich factory tune!
I picked a NA calais up from melbourne last weekend and drove it back to sydney. This thing was running smooth as, and pretty lean aswell because there was no smoke or black **** on the back. I drove it up the hume highway on cruise control at 100kmh and it was getting at max 450km per tank...i had to fill up 3 times and i got home with 3/4 of a tank left. I dont know how anyone can say they get more than this with a VLT...
I picked up my calais and it was returning 220 km's per tank - absolutley RIDICULOUS! So when i got it home, adjusted all the intake piping (duh) set the afm correctly and bingo, 500kms from a tank, guy had replaced everything, even coolant temp sensor etc and was still getting this economy .... it's often just the simple things people overlook

a stock vlt yes u should be economical
once u crank boost into them the poor computer doesnt know what to do, so just dumps a fu ck load of fuel in.
its doable tho. u just need every single sensor working as it should.
if ur car aint heating up
ur o2 sensor doesnt work
u got a malpassi @ 50psi
etc
ur gonna guzzle the fuel
Mines pretty good, on the highway chuggin along in 4th at 90km/h I went from Sale to Ballarat on $60 of ultimate, probably 3-4 hours drive.
around town, $30 gets me an arvo of mixed driving, I cant complain better than my SS was, goes a **** load harder too.
my sedan turbo had the best kms of 450 and that was highway driving stock bar 3 in exhaust i had the worst of 250km had an afm problem but got a lot of cosistant 400km out of it
my wagon i got about 350km highway and 250 around town then i had a play with it with a special machine that plugs between the comp and loom plug and shows all the data up on a screen and specs to compair with and found the afm needed a tune i moved the screw a 1/4 turn and improved peformance and i have just got 350km around town
part reason the vlt use fuel is
1 afm out of tune and doing a resistance check doent always work all cars are different
2 coolant temp sensor reading incorrect
3 the oxy sensor doesnt like rich running and will pack it in and is common to **** up stoping the car going into closed loop setting for cruiseing
4 leaking injectors
5 wrong ignition timing
6 spark plugs leads rotor cap general serviceing
7 just driveing like a tool
in my n/a i got 400km, in my factory vlct im getting no more than 230km off a tank (in MAJOR need of a tune), is booked in for wednesday and i hope there is a significent change!!
also how many ltrs does a factory vlct seriesII hold?
(also mine is completely stock with that exhaust that sticks up and atm i am driving sensibly to see how many km's i can actually get)

n/a vl comm & calais 63 ltrs & wagons 68 ltrs not sure about the turbo'ed but i reckon the sedans would be the same, could be wrong though???
