It's not a stupid question, I have wondered why they did it as well and I really don't know the answer, maybe just because they could. But when I bought it I didn't care if it was original or not I just liked the Walkinshaws from the first time I saw one. The last thing I was worried about was it's resale value (thats not entirely true either, I knew because it was a Walkie it would hold it's value regardless). I was after a high performance car so I obviously wanted the fastest one available (within my price range of course) and when I saw this one it was love at first sight and all I wanted to do was to get in and drive it and to drive it is to love it. But after saying all of that drivel, if or when I go to sell it I still want to get as much as possible for it. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I didn't want to sound like I was hanging sh!t on you, I have modified my own walkinshaw as like you I feel that first they should be enjoyed, then worry about it's worth. However everything that I have done can be reversed, I have also considered throwing in a stroker but if I was to do that I would take out the original block and stroke a different one. Do you have the original block?

Early on in the walkies life it was a very unloved car which means modifiying it was no big deal.Like mods on a gts.Only the last few years has seen a real demand for umodified walkinshaws

ITS A BITZA. for example, just because someones selling a Cobra replica, doesnt mean you will pay $250 plus for it. You may have an original shell, but its not a real Cobra!! its very cool that it has walky id plates, and it has a VN Grp A motor etc in it, but that really does detract from what makes a collectable car, collectable. Otherwise everyone would be making VN SS Group A Walkinshaws!! making sence??

I agree that yes it is a REAL walkinshaw, its genuine, its just not original condition anymore. I wouldnt say any modified walkinshaw wasnt a real one, its just not original anymore. My last one had a modified engine, massive sound system but it was still genuine. Like Sly said eariler, back then they werent regarded in the same way as today, it was just an HSV with good bits and stood out.

I am hoping that I can get some feed back from all you Walki enthusiasts out there as to what I should advertise it for. It has about 136k on the clock (it had about 95k on it when I bought it) and all the miles I have done have been in the country no city miles worth talking about. It's in good condition as it has been kept in a garage it's whole life, paint work needs tidying up due to stone chips etc, from high speed country travel. But here comes the interesting part at about 60k the whole drive train was replaced by Bill Lee with that of the VN GRP A SS ie; 6 spd ZF gear box, 3.45:1 diff and a new motor with the slightly different twin throttle bodies but all the same internals. A different cam was added and tuned by Bill Lee achieving just over 230kw on the dyno and a whole heap of torque. I have since changed the final dif ratio to 3.9:1 to make 6th gear more user friendly. Any constructive feedback from this thread would be greatly apreciated. Your car will suit someone wanting to build a show or race car. There will be someone out there that will pay good money for your car as its a good starting point. Sure you wont sell to someone who wants a factory standard low k one, but not all people want that. I would personally rather have good grunt and a strong gearbox over standard Dont get me wrong, I wouldn't modify a factory standard original Walky these days as they are becoming few and far between

Jeff wasn't one of Bill lee's mechanics... he was a mate of the guy who owned it when Bill Lee swapped the running gear... From memory Jeff said that the car overheated, or got a bit warmers, and Bill wasn't able to stop it or work out why?? Quote: Originally Posted by Woomba139 He may of been one of Bill's mechanics. If you want to let it go for under $20k I will buy it and bring it over to New Zealand and continue modifying it

It's in Perth now getting some work done on it, bringing it back up to scratch. Oh yeah, nice looking car by the way. Thanks. Theres no shame in modifying one to make it better in my opinion with that gearbox you have good base to make a dam quick car... would love to see some pics of it?
