14-02-06, 14:15 GMT+10#21 well as funny as it is, i wanted a VN calais and all the ones I saw were either huge rip offs at dealers (like, 8grand!) or busted up old privately sold ones.
Anyway - I was also looking at silvias (haha) which were a bit out of my price range for a decent one. I thought I'd try and find a VLT berlina though, because they seemed like good value - couldn't find a turbo one in SA at all (and i'm sure if i did it would have been too $$).
So yeah bought my first VL, a pretty clean white VL exec n/a with tint/exahust, extractors and some phat 225 14" mags haha.
Was an awesome car and I thought it was so fast upgrading from a little 4cyl, anyway - for some reason i fell in love with VL's, and owned 3 so far.

so i used to say if u own a VL you think your the man... then it came time searching for a car... being 17 and needing a car to get around but my tastes and budgets colided.... coming close to my 18th bday and dad opened the paper and goes what do u think of this... im like oh yeah sounds good... went and checked one out for nice and cheap and paid for it there and then... it had a few problems that needed fixing (stupid CAS :P) and was on the road... had my first real drive of it and was like wow... these cars arn't bad at all....
havn't looked at anything else as ive now got the biggest soft spot for them :P

15-02-06, 10:57 GMT+10#28 Actually this web site gets me into VL's.
Ive owned vb/c/h's b4.
Ive owned a a SL VLT b4
And brought the VLC and was gonna convert it to the turbo motor from the VL SL i owned or Drop in a 5L injected motor.
I actually brought a 5L EFI motor but it never eventuated so i sold it and recond the turbo motor and droped that and the 5 speed in.
(was spewin at the time cause the recon 30T 5 speed was slower in the calais then it un recond in the SL)
It pretty well sat as a white over silver VLCT 5 speed for a few years.
I had planned to respray my SL turbo Black with purple pearl but that never happened but with this one i though it be classyer to paint it black with metalic.
So i did this. And it was about that time i found this website about VL calais turbos and what easy mods u can do to make them quiker etc.
So what "gets" me into VL's is i diescoverd how easy they are to make quiker and ideas of other things i can do to improve my car.
Thanks to this website.

15-02-06, 12:18 GMT+10#29 What colour is it???? it nearly looks greeny/black.....my VL is Cardinal Red.
Got into them years ago, orginally I wanted to get a VK 5.0L but my father wouldn't let me buy a V8 (I was only 16 when I purchased my VL), so my cousin suggested a VL instead (he had 1 & wouldn't get any other commodore), so the hunt began. My father wnated me to get a Nissan Pulsar, but I didn't want a bare off them, he also thought I should get an auto rather than a Manual - wasn't into that either - had to be a 5 speed.
I ended up purchasing my VL off a chick in Newcastle named Elizabeth (she bought her brothers falcon...as if you would). I only had my L's so my old boy got to drive it around everywhere until I got my P's...9 months later.
Got my P's then did it up - 17" Rims, Full Pedders Suspensions, Group A Spoiler, Gold Brakes, Tints, exhaust...you know the usually brake the pocket sorta **** that you do to vehicles.
I love it & never want to get rid of it - it's the 1 & only car I have ever owned (I had it for going on 6 years now). It's going to turn into my Sunday car when I get a new one.

15-02-06, 12:19 GMT+10#31 i used to ride passed a gold calais turbo in a car yard every saturday on my way to tennis when i was about 15. Fell in love with the looks, it just looked plain sex. My grandparents had a maroon vl exec and my uncle had a gold vl sl wagon. When i was 17 i ended up buying a low km, stock champaigne gold vl berlina and totally loved it to pieces. Drove it and did it up for 4 years. Looked at buying a few calais turbos with my ex fiance, but never did. After 4 years i sold it for a vs calais 5.0. I miss it like buggery, and will most likely get my hands on a calais turbo one day soon in the future... Even if it just ends up being a sweet weekend car...

15-02-06, 18:07 GMT+10#32 The looks of the VL kills!
It was the only car I wanted as my 1st car cuz it suited my budget and was a decent looking 86-87-88 model car. It's approaching 20 years now and the VL is still lookin good.
But I wouldn't have got one if I had to get auto, took me a few months to find a decent manual one, and I wasn't convinced to change my mind and get anything else. Couldn't find a decent manual turbo one either, so I had to settle for an N/A.

15-02-06, 19:24 GMT+10#33 the guy i lived with had a na 5 speed sl.. dragged off heaps of average cars..mates vp's and vs's.. so i wanted one.. then another mate had a na calais auto, it got killed by the 5 speed..
so i knew i wanted a vl 5 speed.. finialy found one and knew i wanted it jsut by reading the add, lol..
it took about 1 year for the bug to bite big enough to make do a turbo conversion, but havnt looked back since..
as said b4 good looks, reliable, cant thrash and rev the crap outa them the rb30 jsut keeps going..
i will allways have a vl i think

23-02-06, 07:51 GMT+10#37 well I just loved VL Cal's since I'd seen them.. so when I was 19 I got one (9 years ago now!), then I was getting 'over' the stock n/a (ok it had a couple of basic mods), so I replaced my blue/silver VL Cal 3L S2 with a VL Cal 5L S2 - lol!
Still do love my Cal but you get a bad wrap around 'street machiners' coz it's a commy. They do respect what I've done to her and with her though

23-09-07, 21:47 GMT+10#38 The looks of the Calais front, from when i was a kid reckoned they look cool. Have had mine for about 4 years now and nothing else comes close to me as my VL, bought and sold 3 other Commodores and a VS Stato (10psi) in that time.

went and looked at it (white BT1 , one owner, 110kms) and bought it within 5 mins for bargain price
