RB20 in a VS?
Maybe different but it seems a bit stupid if you ask me, it would have to be Twin Turboed just to get the VS under a 10 second 0-100Km/h pass.

ECOTEC's being slow hmm mate what ya on seriously they would chew the ass of a RB20 any day and i guarentee the old 3.8 Litres used in the vn's etc would maul it too mate, teh rb20's are a ****house motor to say the least they have so many probs its not funny and trust me ive driven an ecotec, a vn calais with a 3.8 l and rb20 and i would have to say that the ecotec ****s all over it...

ummm a vr exec would weigh HEAPS more than a vl exec....not 100kg dude.
The rb20 is a good motor, just probably not for the VS as the bulk weight of the VS needs low down torque to give useable performance.... the 3.8 may be a bit of a dog motor but it does deliever the necesary low down power to push the heavy chassis..

the ecotec revision of the buick 3.8 did not make it a new motor lol it was just an evolution, like the LS1.

a VS basic v6 exec is around 1400kg. thats with a v6, which would be about 50kgs lighter than your rb20.
ah well if u actually did this u have a slower than normal vs v6, lost resale value as it wouldnt even be legal, and done lots of work for such a useless result.... should of just got a charger on the eco or something, hope u learned your lesson... that is one of the worst conversions ive ever heard of, ive read ppl on here even bagging putting the 20 in a vl!

Lets keep the insults and stuff to a minimum ok guys
Anyway - I think if I was going to the effort of doing a conversion like this I'd go the rb25, the rb20's work alright, but they are expensive to modify if you want decent power and have bugger all torque.
Would be intersting to actually have a drive of one though to see how it goes in real life.

Some people on this website that don't have any idea about how to do a conversion to a car or that have even done a conversion or changed the spark plugs in their cars should keep there hear say opinions to themselves !
A stock VS commodore weights about 1350 from holden. Depending on different variables that you have to take into account such as (bodykits, electric components, mags, how much fuel is in your car , sub boxes etc.) What most people here have forgotten to take into account is that an ecotec motor and 5 spd manual box weighs in the region of 100 kg more than a rb20.
I personally know someone with an rb20 in a sil80 with a frontmount plugin wolf3d 600 hp turbo and exhaust and auto diff gears with street tyres and 18 psi making 230 rkw ran an easy 13.2 @ 109 mph. Not too shabby for bolt-on mods to an un-opened 200k motor !
In a Vs there is nothing stoping the same results with the same modificaions possiblly even better.
Oh and that car was weighed and it cam in at 1400 kgs without driver.
So what you have to remember is it isn't any old fossil of a cast iron piece of 200kg **** between those chassis rails there go for it mate people will allways run others down who do different things.
Anyone who thinks an ecotec is a good motor takes penises in the bum they are good for helping the ants get there hills going when you roll them out of the ute in the bush.
Oh and the vn buick motor and ecotec have something in common they both have 6 cyclinders that is it different block pistons stroke heads cam manifolds everything different managment dumbasses. Facts is what you need to learn how to find !

got any proof of the motor weighing more than an eco?? i can hold a eco block with one hand, no chance of doing that with a inline 6... then theres the long crank and long head e.t.c... id be very surprised.
And anyone who bags out the ecotec is just ignorant, u realise that theres buicks in the states quicker than anything you've ever been in ?? not bad for a 50yo v6... ecotec's are even getting a decent aftermarket now and there's already some 9s ones.

different block? Can we confirm this? I have the article here from a motor magazine upon realese of the ecotec which doesnt say this..
How did that 180 manage to weigh in at 1400kg? I'm assuming that isnt dry weight and that car must have had a pretty heavy set of rims and stereo in it? Sorry but that is the heaviest 180 i have ever heard of!
rb20's are a great motor for a 180sx apart from upsetting the weight balance of the car due to the rb series being a pretty heavy family of motors.
