22-01-06, 20:54 GMT+10#23 My VK Calais rear window panel was pretty bad, we bogged up the boot channel and that held off the rust for a while, but its come back further along near the pillar so we will need to do the rare spares rust replacement panel thing.
Front window is fine. The VL's had more front window rust problems that the VK's did.
My panel beater mate has just done a full respray on a VL Calais turbo and they brazed up all the holes in the rear window boot gutter, which was not bad at all and was only two very small spots, however the front LHS of windscreen needed heaps of work.

22-01-06, 21:41 GMT+10#24 I stripped my car down to a bare shell, you drill through the spot welds on the windscreen sill panel and lift it off, the rare spares replacement panel fitted ok, with some small grinding adjustments.I also painted under the sill first before I welded it back on to ensure a neat job.
The only tweaking nessesary was to get it to line up with the bonnet evenly.
The back sill I had the gutter made by an engineering shop and had it fitted perfectly. All that was after a week in the boot sanding and wire wheeling, and two weeks in the engine bay sanding and smoothing.
Not one single bit of rust now

Fark mate that rust is rude!
Depends how much you value your car, id never go bog all the rust patches under the windows, ive seen so many vls around done like this and it cracks.
My car has copped a respray with the rust cut out and if you spend a little extra and do it properly it wont happen again while ya own it.

not as bad as it looks? that's obscene, the back end of your car looks like it's gonna seperate from the front sometime soon! if you don't have money or means to do it properly or immediately get a can or two of that $2 fish oil from supercheap and hit the whole lot - better dry it out first tho!

Is it worth applying fish oil (Septone) to external parts around windscreen, rear screen - typical parts.
I'm referring to small rust flakes sort of stuff.
- Would it hinder the already present rust by any chance?

putting anything like that will only slow the rusting down and will have to be maintained. once you have rust its always there unless you cut it out. your best bet if ever you do bare metal work is wire brush it, apply phosphuric acid which u can buy at auto shops l, than repair/ etch primer and so forth

03-01-16, 12:50 GMT+10#37 ive always had results by wire brushing converting and sealing. either you havent sealed correctly or the rust is wose than wire bruching can fix
