metallic paint the sparkels so to speak are in the can, you dont need base color unless you are puting a light color over a dark, then you can put a dark base down, just saves on good paint and wont take 30 coats for it to cover,
OK, but on the house of kolor website(www.houseofkolor.com.au/index (http://www.houseofkolor.com.au/index)) on the charts in the metallic paints it says they have been applied over white basecoat.
yeh cos they are all about custom colours, different bases will make the final colour different thats why they say/use a white base because its about in the middle to , grey <white> black, sorta thing.
Just a quick qustion, if i wanted a metallic paintjob, will i have to spray on a solid base(basecoat white for example), before the metallic paint??
Custom paints are a diffrent thing all together, and HOK is a diffrent thing again and if you want to use house of kolor, you will have to use the base that is recomended by them, as i said most metallic is is in the color so you would paint it and clear it.........
custom paint can be difficult to paint and very expenceive best left to a good spraypainter cheers

4 coats of base ( 5 mins between... last coat dust it on, extra metallic )
wait an hour
first coar of clear... make it relativley light so u dont damage metallic, 2nd a lil heavier, 3rd a lil heavier again and so on
i found prolly 5 coats of clear to get minimum peel
off the gun.. without cutting back
