26-12-05, 21:34 GMT+10#24 jackhammer needs a fk load of power!!!
mtx subs are pretty damn good thou.. im running a pioneer spl sub.. it does the job.... shakes nearly everything in the car!
but if i were to buy a new sub i'd prolly go with TREO-ENGINEERING

27-12-05, 02:53 GMT+10#25 best sub in the world?? LOL
SQ? SPL? Looks? Too many variants
Just like a motor, it comes down to the sum of the other parts. No use having a $2k sub running from a $160 deck and a bridged boss audio amp!!
But yeah... anything from DD, ID, etc and your looking at some very nice subs. Just make sure you've got the quality deck/amps/eq to utilise it!

27-12-05, 14:22 GMT+10#28 yes i agree the Mtx jackhammer 22" subwoofer is very good prolly even best in the world. But something that comes really close to that maybe even better is the Kicker 18" solox. 5000watts rms of pure power and is the same as a 23" circle subwoofer becuz its square !!!

27-12-05, 21:33 GMT+10#29 Yeah, and because the cone's an irregular shape all the pressure is on the corners and when driven too hard, the cone shatters. I've seen alot of square woofers suffer this fate. That's one of the reasons ALOT of the world's woofer/speakers are built round.

28-12-05, 10:04 GMT+10#30 lol dude if u wear them in they will go as hard as u want them 2 go kickers usually take 2 weeks at least to wear in the rubber becuz its so thick and the cone is made of good quality solid materials so it doesnt shatter :P if u know what ur doing with square subs u cant go wrong my friend its all in the knowledge :P

28-12-05, 19:41 GMT+10#31 Why do you think Kicker Solo Barics have such a massive cone brace on the back of the woofer? I've seen 18" Solo Xs shattered like glass.

So? A DD 9915 costs $2300. Price a comparison of quality??

A quality 15" will hit as hard/fast as a lower quality (mtx/pioneer etc) 10" sub... Depends on the application...box plays a large role. A large ported box won't be half as responsive as a smaller sealed box...but lets not debate ported vs sealed.

That is the funniest **** I've read. The MTX Jackhammer was a publicity stunt. Firstly..an eyesaw like that shouldn't be in a car. The thing is 22" and needs so much power to move it. When it DOES move it, it doesn't do a good job. Firstly, boxes are very important. You don't see massively loud free-air subs. The size of a box needed for this sub would be the size of a car...you are in the box. 22", find some songs you enjoy listening to that will sound good on this thing? Almost nothing.
Louder than aeroplane engine? :/ It was hitting 130dB. My single 15" sub with 500wattrms would outdo that by far. 3dB is double louder...I'm expecting I'd hit 140dB.

DD 9915 you mean...their latest model 15" sub. Their Z1 amps are wicked.
Digital Designs (DD) are world leaders in SPL (how loud), but would go IDMAX for SQ (sound quality), along with DD 9100 models (designed for SQ).

31-12-05, 10:51 GMT+10#37 You're obviously confusing the base DD 99 series with the latest model, the 99Z. Not to mention the ultra-rare DD 18"s.

31-12-05, 13:46 GMT+10#38 so what is the worlds best 18" spl monster?

31-12-05, 13:57 GMT+10#39 IMO, it has to be the DD Z18. Apparently, you can only be 'invited' to own this woofer as it's strictly a limited edition.
