Ah ok. Thanks man. Either way it doesn't sound like a cheap job.

You could get a 2nd hand crown wheel and pinion, perhaps even different gears and use those. Mine were still ok, I do have a spare set of 3.45s from when I swapped over to 3.89s in my last VLT. But yeh, at the end of the day you can drive in and out of a shop and get the job done right. Little bit of rain up in nth QLD lately and shes tight as in the wet, sideways so easy and fishies off the lights. I've had to drop the boost to standard so I don't fry the auto before I get the parts from Keas to fix it.

If you don't have any back lash now you should be OK.

in simple terms (cause I don't know how it's officially described) it's just free play within the gear set within the diff. So if you jack up the rear end and take the park brake off and stick it in gear you can then try to turn a rear tyre and you should get a very small amount of movement via the tail shaft.

Thanks guys, apreciated , and thanks for taking the time to write the article, doesnt seem half as scary, used to think i'd never attempt to change a centre like this, only the 9" type that a trained monkey could do, and has . Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

doesnt it have to be shimmed up by a pro tho? a bloke at work was saying that it needs to be shimmed in the housing so the centre doesnt move either way.. anyone sort of understand?

What spline was your open wheeler centre? I think people should be made aware that when going from 25 spline 2 pinion open wheeler to 28 spline 4 pinion LSD, the bearing cups are different sizes (steel section that sits over the roller bearings). If you LSD was not supplied with these bearing cups, you cannot use your open wheeler ones. My local bearing shop charged me $8.80 each for these to suit the LSD.

It was a 28 spline centre i havnt had a dramer and the steel plates actually pulled the centre in!!! no noise at all i love it!!! best thing i ever did!!!!

Got a question. I've got a 25 spline axle diff with the 2 pinion center. Can I put a 28 spline 4 pinion lsd center in if I change the cones for some 25 spline items?

finally when to do this yesterday after waiting for my motor to get built i was doing it at my mates shop and he said that you need different shims with the lsd and still have to set up the back lash even though i was using the same gears or i would rip the gears apart

and if you dont set them up exactly, what will happen? you will bugger a $50 gear set BIG DEAL, do it your self man, get it close and you will be sweet for years normally the shims from the donor centre are correct
