I had a look at it in the daylight and it actually doesn't fit snugly the way round, up the front where there is that bend is a big gap. No idea why that would be though, I would expect series 1 to not fit well, then series 2 to be improved.
Thats odd Jonno seeing as yours is a SII body. my mates SII wit the shallow console is a perfect fit all round.
Will be sure to pull his console soon and update here as to whats different, and I'll have the deep console out of my exec on hand to see how that fits

04-10-05, 10:47 GMT+10#26 I Personally think it is a Difference between the luxury models. What I mean is that Berlina's and Calais' no matter what series or year had the shallower ones BECAUSE Berlina's and Calais' had plush pile carpet on the floor as well as the kick panels and the door trims. I have a Calais and a Berlina both Series 2 and they both have the shallower console and they both fit perfectly. My mate had a 1986 Calais Series 1 and I have his old console here which broke and it too has a shallower console. I would imagine that SL's and Executives had the deeper skirting around the front of the console to make up for the cheaper carpet so there was not a big gap there. Also I am pretty sure the Calais and Berlina models have really thick underlay under the carpet.

Here are pics of the different shifters and of shallow and deep consoles in S1 calais, S1 executive and S2 calais.
The one exception is a deep console in an S2 - it won't fit, its impossible to get the front plastic retainers under the clips, they miss by a mile!!
I couldn't see/feel any difference in carpet/underlay thickness between any of the cars checked, and they all had original fit carpet/underlay, besides, no amount of extra pile/underlay is going to fill the huge gap on the LH side of a shallow console in a S1 calais or executive.
