16-09-05, 10:12 GMT+10#23 Any engine will blow up at sustained high power levels (racing) if it is not properly designed to do the job. Efficient thermal management is what is required.
Factory turbo cars have done rather well at Bathurst, and Le-Mans 24 hour races. They do pretty well at Indy too. These are proper purpose built race engines, not backyard hot up jobs.
There are a lot of pushrod V8 drag race engines that would not last one minute at sustained full power, but then the don't need to.

16-09-05, 12:11 GMT+10#25 Are we talking about VL 8s and turbz? or 8s and turbz in general?
For the VLs well I cant really decide I mean the VL 8s sounds awesome every V8 does but the VLTs have had better sucess down the strip sorry guys.
But in general I choose a V8
I mean the only reason why these 4 Cylinders and some 6 Cylinders can keep up or beat V8s is because the have forced induction.

Try go past that combo ??? Nope !! You simply can't !! This is not to say you can't make a turbo 6 go fast cos we all know thats possible they just have their limits !! At the end of the day its personall choice thats all !! What ever makes your Di ck go hard or ........makes you wet !!!

Stupidest comment yet! Even more stupid than the original post!
Thats like saying the only reason V8s go at all is because theyre uneconomical gas guzzling 6litres in capacity etc etc etc!!! Not many factory V8s I know of when STOCK would get me too excited...GENIII-mid 14s, wow. Look at the power companies like BMW are getting out of Atmo 6s.....for sometime aswell!
A mid 90s M3 runs 13s mate no turbo.

Yeah I realize doorslammers use Forced induction I'm not stupid my 2 yo son can tell you that !
By the way how much is an M3 BMW worth when new ?????
Well over $100K no probs
LS1 Commodore ??? they start at a bit over $40K new
Spend $ 2000 to $3000 on an LS1 = easy 13's (okay so you modded it but at least you got money in your pocket and you ain't a broke d ick that mortgaged his house to own a german commodore because who honestly has the CASH to BUY and Maintain one of these ??)
My point is it cost more money and you will sacrifice more driveability to make the same power levels with a small cubic inch engine ie: 4 or 6 cyl

Wrong man! Take a stock VL Turbo and a stock VL 5 litre! How much you gunna spend to runs 11s 12s or 13s in either of these and which one will you be sacrificing drivability in!!...I can tell you now the V8 will use heaps more fuel and become less driveable than the 6 and cost more to achieve similar results.

Not to be Forgotten, the Factory 4cycle VLs
Fact is, each one was made and used for a reason,.. and in that statement alone, not only are the Motors an issue of consequence,.. but so are the Gear boxes, and diff ratios married up to them, There is no, This is better because as each one serves a greater purpose,.. and was made with something in mind,.. Some for Race, some For Families, Some for Cops, some for business men, and so-on all boils down to,.. does your car suit your purpose?
I am sure Holden made the 4 cycle VLs in for the Kiwis, as NZ is such a small place, they might have been afraid of them accelerating right off the island,

You will be surprised I have owned a couple of VL turbo's and a few V8's including a blown EFI and Intercooled 5L and I know which one was less headache and surprisingly fuel effecient and whooped my cousins JZA80 Supra(not standard either) and my friends RB26dett headed 3L bottom ended VL (do I have to say anymore) yes it was the V8 so you will never convince me other wise plus its the laws of physics , There's no replacement for Cubic Displacement whether its getting force fed or not , I encourage you to take up your point with any half decent race engine builder , Why don't you ask someone like IN5AN3 or omy-11s what it really cost to go fast with a six cyl it ain't cheap , this is not too say they aren't going to go fast it just ain't cheap or easy - Maybe on your level you are comfortable with your combo ?? And why shouldn't you be ??? If you are an all out VL turbo man just leave it at that cos its all about personal prefference !!

So a blown 5 litre was more fuel efficient than a JZA80 Supra? How? Now im confused ...I'd say he had a major tuning issue...lol.
You can rave about your success stories and scalps all day but at the end of the day they are just that, stories.
Thats a tough looking ride youve got in the build, guess i'll see you on the street then.....NOT!
Im not biased either way I do love the 8s and have several mates with 'hotties'...
As far as my current combo goes, yeah im fairly happy with it, not too many street driven cars get past me...over here anyway...and thats what it is a street car...having said that I will be chasing some more HP shortly.
This is a never ending discussion with pros and cons from both sides.
All depends on the individual application and purpose the car serves...
Was the reason I initially said it was a stupid f ukn thread...

16-09-05, 16:11 GMT+10#38 Boys I love my 6 cylinder turbos I think they are great...hence why I am building a VL drag car. As Kurt said it isnt cheap and you will find it can be very very very expensive. I am speaking from experience.
I really love my cars and do not have a bias approach. I mean V8's are cool and can also generate a ****load of power. Probably double the amount a 6 cylinder can . Give them some respect.
The only thing I will disagree with would be the fact that a big grumpy 8 can be more streetable than a turbo. I mean 500HP off the bat and about 700-800 neumon metres of torque... there is not much room to play with. Touch the accelerator and its all there. Whereas a turbo wont hit boost till 3K (approx).
I cannot see why everyone (welllll the majority of people) on this sight have a negative approach to N/A cars. I mean I can understand it is a turbo site but in saying that... it does not mean you have the god given right to say a turbo is cheaper to build than a 8 or a 8 is **** etc. Its childish comments like this that turn me off the wonderful world of motorsports.

PSI 05L on this forum owns the car in that STORY anyhow yes stupid thread yes you will see me on the street but admittedly not too often , I ain't trying to start fight here just stating facts and its differences that make owning a car an enjoyable experience because if we all drove the same cars it would be boring as Sh..it IN5AN3 thanks for your as always level headed comments !!!

I was using the VL Turbo and VL V8 as a comparison and honestly I dont think anyone can argue what I wrote:
