Probably in the wrong thread dude, post a new thread in the gearbox section and you will get more responses..
Great thread fellas, this may save a lot of bandwith..
Hey guys just thought I would add a few things. I just completed the conversion myself.
Here is what I did. I have highlighted the ponits that people doubted.
- R33 GTS-T Gear box,
- NA VL sandwich plate.
- VLT drive shaft
- VLT speedo drive - And my speedo seems to still read spot on.
- R32 starter motor - which is the same as the NA VL one I belive
- My VLT 10" Flywheel and clutch DID fit straight in and it did NOT touch the bell housing at all.
- Had to use big spacers between the cross member and the floorpan.
- My VLT shifter DID fit straight in. You just have to swap the whole thing over including the plastic bit the metal ball sits in - no idea what its called. And now my shifter sits in the exact spot my old one did.
- I used the R33 slave but the clutch line DID NOT fit in at all. The fitting on the R33 slave was a banjo style fitting and the VLT hydraulic clutch line has a stadard screw in style fitting. I had to have a whole new line made.
As stated above the clutch is now much heavier using the smaller R33 slave but nothing to be of concern
I absolutely love it. Nicest box I have EVER driven with. And it hasn't self destructed yet.
I think that was it.
Anymore questions and feel free to P.M me or leave a question here.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Oh and for those of you interested in costs
R33GTS-T box out of a written off skyline - $750 (Usually between $1000 - $1500)
NA sandwich plate - $20
R32 starter - $50
Braided clutch line - $60
Misc bolts spacers - $20
TOTAL - $900
Hey all ive just brought myself a r33 gtst box $1200. ive currently got a mf5 box in my vlct and nobody has stated whats need for the change. So my question is...
ive got the r33 gtst box
i brought a mx7 speedo drive from nissan will my mf5 cable fit in the mx7 speedo drive? and do i need the right angle adapter?
will the mx7 and r33 yokes fit straight onto my mf5 tailshaft?
Any help at all will be fantastic
oh and last question will the thrust bearing from my mf5 fit the r33? if not do i just buy a r33 thrust bearing? will this work with my clutch? Cheers all
Hey what have all you guys done for the wiring?
The R33 box also communicates with the R33 ecu, so what have some of you guys done in regards to this?
Just interested to know.
Cheers.
how do you mean? The only electrical component is the electronic speedo drive which i removed and fitted a new mx7 speedo drive. The other two sensors on the gearbox are reverse lights and the reverse signal on your dash.
