I use 17 mm mdf for mine sorry i dont have pics on me, but all you have to do is trace it... And to all for the extra thickness all you have to do is plane the back and front thinner. Im not sure if i explained that well enough. Well what you do is where the shelf goes under ur back seat: you plane it so that it goes thinner there so it fits under snug and then do it for the back where it sits under the window seal. But do it so that it gradually is thinner not sudden if that makes sense sorta like this / but not as steep slope. Hope that helps.

Any help, is better than no help. Cheers.

Here is one i made for my VP. I plan to either have something airbrushed in the centre of it to make it stand out, or get rid of it completely and build a custom fibreglass one based on the original shelf, for a neater fit (as the VP shelves wrap around the side, so it looks crap with a flat shelf)... I havent posted links to pictures before so hopefully this works.
It fits really well and i like the way the speakers are recessed. It's hard to tell, but there is maybe a 2" lift from the lowest point on the shelf to the height of the rings for the speakers.
Damian.

Firstly, I know nothing about how to trim and this is my first go at it, so if it wrong, try be constructive in letting me know, and not just flame me .
1. Bought materials: Vinyl from spotlight, tin of glue / liquid adhesive that can be applied with a brush (i find sticks better than spray adhesive) and a brush from Bunnings. The vinyl stretched more from left to right than it did from top to bottom, so it was something to be aware of when positioning it and stretching it.
2. Layed shelf on vinyl and traced its general shape around it so there was about a 4" - 5" overlap of vinyl, and then cut it out. At this point it is better to cut the shape to big than too small, so don't be shy with it .
3. Applied glue in about 30cm sections to the wood and the vinyl and let it sit until it became tacky to touch. On the long straight lengths, i just pulled the vinyl tight (but don't stretch it, it won't always go back) and pressed it down.
On areas with corners I found that cutting trianlge section out of the vinyl and then pulling each point out tight and into place got the results i was after. (See my crappy mspaint job below for an example). You get the idea i hope.
5. After it was glued i got a staple gun and put some staples around it to ensure it holds.
6. For the speakers, i cut small holes that the speaker wouldnt fit through and then screwed the speaker in as normal. The vinyl just stretches into shape.
Hopefully that helps. It is fairly straight forward if you just take it slow. I did have 1 spot underneath where i gripped to tighly on the vinyl and pulled too hard and my fingertips stretched it 'bumped' the vinyl, which wouldnt go away, but seeing it was underneath it was ok. So don't stretch it too far.
Damian.
