27-06-05, 15:21 GMT+10#23 I'm keen on one, but I don't think its worthy at the moment, particularly when I'll be settling for either a hiflow t03 or a t03/4 hybrid at the moment.
Hardly worth it until I get a bit more serious - Or is it worth it now?

27-06-05, 18:48 GMT+10#24 jeez man settle. i wasnt bagging you.
i was simply saying that to copy that collector wont do much good if you want to bring it to a rectangular flange .ie t3 flange.
mate i totally repect your knowledge and fabrication skills, i think you took what i said the wrong way

27-06-05, 20:20 GMT+10#25 Sorry mate, obviosuly did a little bit, but by the same token, I didn't mean to sound super pissed off, I was cool, just trying to explain why they work, or let people know how they work even, so sorry if it sounded ****ty duz360
It actually works really good on a T3 flange, its just a round hole in the plate, most of the manifolds I have made so far have been single entry T3, like the GT35/40 on the SR that picked up 30rwhp at 5psi less boost. I have done a To4 flange on a GTR with a T66 that makes 500rwhp on pump fuel with 3" exhaust, and will find out in the next 2 weeks how it goes with twin 3:1 collectors on a 1000hp GT45 on a 2JZ. Hoping for high 600's on stock engine. I might just join the site so I can attach pics, would make life easier, as I have heaps. They work on split turbines as well, I just use 2x 3into1 merge collectors.
As far as using the manifold with your hiflow bextor, I think that it is definately worth it. Not even trying tosell you one of mine, the way I see it, is if you have to do oil and water line mods anyway, plus gaskets, plus everything that goes with it, you may as well have the best manifold on there and do it once. Due to the design of teh manifold as well, it pushes the exhaust through the turbine a LOT harder and more direct than almost any other manifold, this will help make morepower through a smaller turbine housing and turbo by having enough velocity through it to not create much of a restriction. Also, due to the design of the merge collector, it will also "scavenge" the cylinders even more, and hence also making your engine more efficient and make more power again with the smaller turbo.
At the end of teh day, you could do one of two things by using the manifold now, you could make the same power on less boost, and have a more reliable package and leave it at that, or make more power on the higher boost you would have run with the stock manifold, and enjoy the 50 odd rwhp extra power.

6Boost, sorry if ive missed it but are you saying that you use a round collecter(as pictured above) with rectangular flanged rear housings?? i gather thats what your saying but id like for you to clear it up. if thats the case you would have to fill the either end of the rectangular flange with meat, if you know what i mean, correct??

27-06-05, 22:15 GMT+10#29 flange is made to suit the collector

27-06-05, 23:16 GMT+10#31 no no the t3 flange that is welded to the collector is custom made to suit the collector.....does that make sense??? the ex housing does not have to be touched

27-06-05, 23:26 GMT+10#32 yeh but then how do you get a round flange to match a rectangle flange?

28-06-05, 00:10 GMT+10#33 You don't, thats the point of my first post. The hole in the plate on the manifold, where the turbine bolts to, is round. It is the diameter of the smaller size of the 2 sides of the rectangle of the turbine housing. If you got a piece of paper, draw a rectangle 60mmx45mm(I think thats the size of the turbine hole), then draw a circle smack bang in the middle of the rectangle that touches the 2 shortest sides, being the 45mm part. This is what the mating of the two looks like.
Like I said in the other post, some think this isn't good, but thats not the case, it stops reversion from the gasses back into the exhaust manifold, and hence onto the head when the gas reverts back along the wall of the turbine housing, as it hits this shoulder. If need be, you could port the flange of the manifold kind of oval I guess, but there is no point. It helps, not hinders performance, and also, the area under the plate is where the real magic of the manifold happens, before it gets into the turbine. The collector brings with it more benifits than even if that was a problem.
I'll try and get some difinitive test results of back pressure and hp gains and such over the coming months as I do more and more back to back comparisons. I have an RB25 lined up for this exact testing in around 4 weeks. Should be interesting

Oh, and cmy747's car has a T3 flange with this round hole in his manifold, ask him how well it works

28-06-05, 10:31 GMT+10#34 sweet, thats what i thought you were saying. dont get me wrong im not knocking your work its just that ive never seen a collector like that, my collector uses the same kind of method but to suit a rectangular flange. seems to work well so far.
let us know how you go with the rb25!

28-06-05, 18:57 GMT+10#37 I'm looking forward to it. Will be nice to see how it turns out. If your happy with having a low mount, we might try and make the new one sit the turbo in exactly the same spot as it does standard and save you some more $$$ in fabricating seeing as how your helping me out with testing it, but becuase you have a V band outlet, rotate the turbine flange away from the head towards the strut a bit to give us room to work in and fit the collector. That way, you don't need to change a single oil or water line, or the dump pipe. If we can't though, or it still won't fit the collector that close to the head I'll make it top mount to be easier, and just make you a new dump. .

also mate the turbo you have will be fine with that manifold.
worry about a bigger turbo before you worry about a custom manifold mate

I normally charge $1100 for them, faced ported, sandblasted inside and out, painted black and with new manifold studs and nuts. As an offer to Calais turbo members, if I get 2 people at a time to make them, I'll do them for $950. They are fully tig welded with laser cut 16mm head plates, come with external gate outlet($50 less if you don't need it), and I use the latest technology in the collector design, with what they call a merge collector, like on formula 1 engines and V8 drag cars.
All the pipes enter at the exact same angle, and meet at a point in the middle, pointing straight into the turbine. No pipes enter across at any angle at all, and the design actually helps scavenge the exhaust of the other runners. If you get an air blower and blow into the head plate side into any 1 port, it actually sucks on you hand on the other 5 ports, its pretty amazing. I finshed one for a workshop here in brisbane last week, Mercury Motorsport, for their S15 200sx.
The engine was already full house with cams and internals, plenum and 700 roller. By changing the exhaust manifold and ceramic coating the pistons only(of which is more longevity, not hp related), the engine went from making 410.5 on 28 psi, to 441.4rwhp on 23.5 psi. A gain of 31rwhp at 5psi less boost, over an already custom made stainless manifold. This was an independent test, I am not associated with their shop in any way, and the results are direct from them, I wasn't even their when they tuned it.
I am in the process of tryin to find an RB25 with a lot of work done to back to back one of manifolds, and also the same with an RB30. If there are any genuine people out there that are not associated with any workshop, preferably in brisbane, a may be intersted in building a manifold to back to back for you for what it costs me in materials. Keep in mind though that I would like 350-400rwhp-ish type combinations to test the manifold to get a good comparison at the levels a lot of us strive to achieve reliably.
Best bet for pics is to msg cmy747 and tell him to email the picks of his manifold to me so I can send them to you all, cause I'm sure he'll get the sh1ts having to send them to 50 people and I've been askin him for them for weeks

29-06-05, 01:03 GMT+10#40 narh wouldn't you just jam a rectangular flange over the circular collecter and preform some gapcraft.
Something like this ... cept awhole lot neater, and of course minus the cobwebs.
Mine cost me 700 with a wastegate ... bargain. Spools the stupid exhaust housing (1.52 a/r) i've got on my turbo at about 3500 i reckon, although i'll confirm this for sure once I get my tacho wired up.
