i've had a commodore with a nine inch and i live out in the country kinda like you said and i had no prblems with handling.. some people just say they are too "heavy" and take too much power for a small street car..

[QUOTE]sorry to go off topic but does anyone know the difference between a vb-vk and a vl-vn diff?
well mate the later diffs in vl-vn have a flat faced yolk and the others dont and they also have borg werner on them as a casting also vl diffs are 1'' narrower than vn upwards
madvk308- if u can get a vl v8 diff that would be good i brought a newly recoed v8 lsd for $500 turbo ones usually fetch about $800 or so the fact that it is turbo semmes to make it worth more for some reason? or u could use a vl n/a bti lsd there 25 spline but i ant heard of anyone snapping axels with lsd only spools

is the vb-vk diff the same width as the vl diff? ie its 1" shorter than the vn?

Ive found an LSD at the wreckers up here...the guy reckons it was reco'd not too long ago...but is there a hands on test to see if its decent? - like without physically pulling it apart or fitting it to a car?

yeh u can use a tension rench to see how tight the clutchs are , might have to get the book out tho ,
wreckers always lie , he wouldnt know if it was reco or not unless it came out of his car

Cheers mate ill check it out tuesday...yeah im a little sceptical of the diff as the rotors are pretty rusty, and the diff itself is covered in bulldust..so im thinking the car was driven alot on dirt roads, V8 on dirt roads = constant diff action!

I run a 9" in my VL and don;t find it to be any hassles at all. Yes they do use up a little more power, but if you want a bomb proof diff then that's the trade off.
Mine only cost me $950 complete disc to disc with a 3:45 LSD centre.

Never had a problem with it. I have three centre's for it now 4.11's (1/8th mile) 3.9 (1/4 mile) and 3:45 LSD (street). If they have been built right they bolt straight up no mods required. Even the tail shaft will bolt straight in with no mods if you use the correct yoke.

vl v8 diff is the same as vl turbo, only the ratio is different (3.08 to 3.45)
as others have said, if 8 second VL's can run with them I'm sure it'd be ok in yours
