The Victorian laws are 125KW to the tonne. And VL V8's only put out around 125KW i think so for a car weighing in at aroun 1500Kg you're more than ok

it's not counted at the wheels. It is engine output. Remember the calculation is done with regards to weight aswell so that's what you have to take into account. Off the top of my head all cars up until the VT II V8's are ok to be driven by P platers. HSV's are a different matter. Vicroads have a list on their website with all the cars you can and can't drive

Just about all of them actually pass Power to Weight laws, the problem is they all fall on capacity to weight. The law is 3.5L per tonne.....

I used to work all this stuff out years ago. In a commodore... a VS SS was right on the border line for power to weight and engine capacity to weight... so you would legally drive it on your P's. But a clubsport goes over the limit. Aswell as having to be within those guidelines the car must also not be on vicroads list of restricted vehicles. Which can be obtained by calling vicroads. Just about every holden V8 is on there... i have the list. Also... it doesnt matter whos name the car is registered to... the driver must make sure that the car they drive is roadworthy and legal for them to drive. I have never heard of this law actually being enforced. You see P platers with Gen 3's around... seriously they would be first hassled. As said previously, if you do miraculously get caught... its just a fine. /end rant

theres an acobe reader list on the vicroads site that lists the cars your not meant to drive on ur p's, the VS clubby used to be on it, but then they updated the list and i could no longer find it. Have a look though....
