But I can tell you that a tank lasts me most of a week, and that's work driving, plus cruising about occasionally... About 350km or so at a guess

My n/a auto Executive gets c. 10.5l/100 km driving around Canberra (before it blew a head gasket). That includes commuting, but then Canberra's got good roads and not much traffic. I haven't taken it on a long trip yet.
When I first bought it was getting around 12l/100km. What's improved the fuel consumption, apart from just getting used to the car, has been pulling the rocker gear apart and cleaning everything up (some of the rockers were almost siezed on the shafts) and, more importantly, upping the ignition timing to c. 22 degrees and running on PULP. When I convert to a manual I hope it will drop below 10l/100k.
For the size, weight and age of the car the fuel consumption IMHO is amazingly good. Your Calais will be a bit heavier than an Executive so all else being equal it will use slightly more fuel in stop/start conditions.
One final factor - I'm 48 so my driving is gentler than most people on this board.

it took ages to find out what was wrong with it, but it was a combination of the air flow meter and the computer.
hope that helps
