It's very unlikely that there was going to be a tsnami, or that the titanic would sink, or that the space shuttle blew up, accidents happen.
A guy on here has built two immaculate show-condition cars and had them both catch on fire, last year a guy from SA had his boot catch on fire when his tail lights shorted out, and a member (if you read the members section) just had his car catch on fire. I have a friend who's VH's ignition caught on fire and burnt out most of his dash... and these are only people who I know!
You can maintain a car pretty well, but you can't check everything everyday. For $30-$40 bucks its worth it to save your 15-20 grand car
lol,i just had mine fully rewired.. my tail lights started to short out, lucky i caught it in time.. but the thing im trying to say is that its all avoidable if you maintain it, sure its good to have a fire extinguisher to put it out.
As for the rice, the comment about the hatchback with it on the rear parcel shefl, replacing the dog with the nodding head.. it sounds like rice to me, and in a very impractical place.

You had your whole car re-wired? There are wires going everywhere, fuel lines, fuse box, all can cause fires really easily - for the sake of a $40 fire extinguisher I don't even think a discussion is needed.

It's all about:
1. Prevention.......preventative maintenance
2. Preparedness...knowing what to expect/do and having the appropriate equipment handy.
There's the 'swiss cheese' model where if one day all the holes in the cheese happen to line up something that you thought couldn't happen WILL happen
is painting a fire extinguisher blue and putting a NOS sticker on it a ricer? hahaha, would be funny. Imagine if a fire did start and you pulled out a bottle of nos and started spraying it on the thing, ohh the looks you would get....

Plus if you ever compete your car in CAMS events (hillclimbs, circuit days, circuit racing etc) Then they're mandatory. It's part of scrutineering. Don't know whether drag racing is the same.
bumping this up
anyone got any pics of where they've mounted their fire extinguishers or seen them mounted on VL's?
was thinking possibly on the side of the trans tunnel on the passenger side just under the console, but don't know how much clearance there would be on the other side if i go drilling into it.
other idea was passenger side floor just under the front of the seat.
any more opinions or ideas would be welcomed.
Passenger side trans tunnel. Easy to get to and doesn't get accidentally kicked by passenger.
In the boot makes no sense to me. By the time you realised your car was on fire, got out and got to the boot you'd want it to be a bloody big extinguisher because in that amount of time a fire can go up VERY quickly.
Also, don't forget a METAL bracket is required for CAMS approval.
